*Ladies* PMS and basal vs ISF

What is different for you with PMS or your cycle? My basal increases (.05) all day for the 3 days prior to until the day my period ends.....My ISF goes from 180 to 70!!! And my ratio is 1:13 compared to 1:15 off cycle So, everything changes!

I'm assuming your on the pump...I'm using MDI, but simliar issues. Higher bs three to 5 days before and watch out for lows during. I work with it by adjusting the humalog, since the amount of time it takes for a change in lantus to actuall kick in makes it worthless in that area. My "normal" lunchtime carb ratio is 1:9....during the before period it's often 1:5....after I start it has been as high as 1:15 and still watching for lows. It blows me away sometimes dealing with all the these changes within a 30 day time period!
There are many, many more of us. Your not alone!

I'm on the pill, so my basal increases overall by about 15% about 3 days into a pill pack, then by another 15% about a week before my "period". My I:C goes from 1:17 off-pill to as much as 1:12 right before my period. My ISF doesn't change much though, maybe from ~70 to ~50.

You're definitely not alone- hormones mess everything up!

Oooohhh, yeah, I've been going through that all week--rotten time to be insulin resistant and surrounded by all kinds of goodies at Christmastime! I actually look forward to the first day of my period so I can drop my insulin back to the usual amounts. I still tinker with the basals during that week because they can vary from month to month. It can be very frustrating, but I just test more often and try to keep good records.

every month is different for me, some months i get no change in insulin needs at all and other months i have to increase my basal by 10% for about a week before and into the start.

it threw me this month because i have a cold virus and then my period came 4 days early as well...gahhh! so i'm still on 150% basal rate now!
