Sudden hands and feet tingling

Hi! has anyone experiencing tingling in hands and feet just when the bg is under control?
I am male, 35, 5'6", 128 lbs, diagnosed with type 1 two months ago and currently on Lantus 50u before bed (my doctor said my diabetes should have started 3 years ago).
Since then, I excercise daily (30min stairclimber + 10min weightlifting) stop smoking, watch my carb intake very carefully and meter my bg at least 4 times a day. My 2 months bg level averaged at 93 fasting and 160 2 hours after meals. Suddenly, 2 days ago I had this tingling (no pain) all over my hands and feet. I never had neuropathy symptoms before, why this symptoms happened just when my bg is under control? Are there any explanations for this other than neuropathy? Should I call my doctor immediately?

Thanks in advance for any comments on this.

Noroardanto:

Neuropathy usually takes years to develop, if you have only recently been diagnosed, it would seem to be unlikely - I also get tingling in my hands and feet, but I have been T1 for >30 years.

Are you taking only Lantus? This seems a rather "unconventional" regime if you are T1, particularly as you are taking 50 U which seems quite a high dose for your bodyweight. In general T1's will take Lantus (or another long-acting insulin) in conjunction with a rapid acting analog insulin (Novorapid/Novolog, Humalog or Apidra) which is taken at mealtimes to cover the digestion of carbohydrates.

This is all explained nicely in a couple of books that I would recommend

Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner
Using Insulin by John Walsh.

If you can't find them locally, you can order them over the internet from Amazon.com.

My hands and feet sometimes tingle when my BG is dropping. This can happen at any level for me. Sometimes if I peak to 10 and then it drops back down to 6 rapidly I often get tingling sensation.

I had a tingling/numb sensation in my hands before I was diagnosed but since getting my BGs down this has not occured. I had it once and when I checked my numbers were up.

Yes I only take Lantus. I know that most people with T1 are also using fast acting just before or after meals. But with 50 units of Lantus and my 2100 kkal diet (spread into 6 meals) my daily bg: fasting 93-94 mg/dL, 2hr after breakfast 135-145, 2hr after lunch 135-150 and 150-175 2hr after diner. With these numbers I hope that I won't need more than 1 shot a day.
Thanks a lot for the books recomendation I am new to diabetes and still need many info. I am sure going to buy those books.

I've been diabetic for over 6 years with moderate to good control and I too will sometimes get that sudden pins and needles feeling in my lower limbs and hands. My feet also have poor circulation, but i have really good feeling in them. I passed my last prick test no problem.
I wouldn't worry to much about it unless it becomes consistent or if it starts affecting your lifestyle/work...

Getting a second opinion from a doctor might be something you should do.
