Complications

When I joined Diabetesforums, little did I know the health problems I was about to face. My blood sugars were in relatively good control and my A1C was 7.1, but I was starting to have new problems with my eyes. (Couldn't drive at night due to reflections of the headlights of cars, problems when going from the dark into the light - but I don't have cataracts.) This was after 3 years when I had not needed additional laser treatments and I had a virectomy. The eye doctor said for me to have an F/A, but a week later I became sick, and I never did the test. To make a long story short, I had problems with my thyroid and I found out that I need to eat a gluten-free diet. Yesterday, I went back to my eye doctor, and the improvement is unbelievable! In addition, I lost 25 pounds, my A1C is 6.4, and hopefully I can get to being a "normal Type 1." Like I have said for so many years, when all is said and done, those of us living with diabetes 24/7 know best what is going on better then anyone else, but of course we also must work hand in hand with a good medical team. One more thing, I am always challenging my doctors (in a nice way) if I don't agree with them, and I personally prefer a doctor like Dr. House.

Hello mark, I have some issues too due to this disease and I hope to gain as much control as possible to ward off any more.
I was diagnosed late when I was 11 years old and it was sad state of weight loss was unbelievable!!
Today I am overweight 46 years old and just surviving.
So control is my desire to stay happy and enjoy good food.
