| | | Metformin and weight loss? I was just wondering if any type 1's have taken Metformin for weight loss.
I saw my Endo was told that taking Metformin might help me lose weight. Before i try taking Metformin i would like to know from someone (T1) who has taken them, if they saw any results and what the side effects were if any.
Many thanks!

| | | I have taken metformin to help with insulin resistance, not for wieghtloss per say. I did loss some when I first started it , about 15 pounds over a year. I was one that had the side effects that come with it for some people , stomach issues , that went away after a couple of weeks , and very frequent trips to the restroom with #2s.
My doctor took me off it earlier in the fall, I am not haviing to much insulin resistance problems since I went on the pump and the frequent trips to the restroom have subsided. |

| | | I'm T1.5 but treat it as T1 more or less. I had to stop taking Metformin because I lost so much weight. I ended up at 109lbs and had to put some back on.
I think it works that way for some people. Everyone is so different with their Diabetes.

| | Thank you Palefacegirl03, Bucketmouth and Heather for the quick reply!
O dear...frequent #2's AND the worst #3's!
I don't like the sound of having to run to the restroom often but it seems like it does help with the weight loss...very tempting.
Thanks again for the great advices guys!

| | | I'm a type 1 pumper and a 5-year Metformin user. My endo claims that clinical studies show a combination of the two help to maintain weight control. I have remained within the 118-lb weight range for the last 5 years, so it's obviously working for me.
I had very little stomach problems when I first started on Metformin, and that all went away after the first 4 weeks.
Good luck!

| | Hi -- Ultrafine !!
[color="Indigo"]Metformin for weight loss[/COLOR
Navigating the postings, noted you've had some of the answers you are looking for, however, may I add, as a T2 I've been taking Metformin for 3 1/2 years, I have no doubt Metformin contributes to weight loss, any formed of diabetes, keeping your weight down is imperative, this can only be good for this awful disease, side effects ! in the beginning, stomach upset, windy through the lower orifice, believe me, I consider these rather trivial, the greater aspect is to control, the disease, bear this in mind untreated diabetes can kill, life is more precious, so ULTRA... my posted friend, keep taking the tablets. Take care now !

| | Thank you kgm0612 and Buddy7 for the feedback!
I'm very interested in taking Metformin. I have decided on my next visit to my Endo that I will ask for a prescription. I truly hope that it works for me! I'm excited about it!
(Definately not the doodie part but the weight loss!)
My Endo visit is at the end of this month, can't wait!
Thanks again everyone!
