| | | Bg reading of 548 O boy....I blew it last night....Bought a Heineken mini keg and killed half of it by halftime....I stumbled in my room to take my bg and got a reading of 548...
Bad thing is my team was getting beat on top of that...on a serious note, I took 8 unit basal adjustment and it lowered me to 388 within an hour.....
Today is today and I'm now down to 172. It was fun but how much damage did I do...No more kegs for me....
Have a nice day!!! |

| | Probably not much; it's the extended highs that cause serious damage. **** happens.
But don't let it happen again.

| | Heineken contains 3.4 grams of carbohydrate per 100ml. So you can work out how much carb you consumed. You must have been eating lots of carbs with it to go that high. I find that, because of the alcohol, light beers don't effect my blood glucose very much. But dark beer is another story!

| | | Heineken, Guinness, and most other Lagers cause a rapid rise in blood sugar. When I was on Apidra it seemed like I injected water because it did nothing for me. Humalog is much better if you want to drink any beer. As long as you corrected quickly you shouldn't have caused any damage.

| | Pilsener is the best beer to drink if you want to avoid carbs, with some of them containing less than 2 grams of carb per 100ml. It is also the most refreshing beer style - great on hot days. I brew Pilsener without dextrose. It reduces the alcohol content, so I can drink lots of it . Guiness is a lot heavier, at 4.9grams/100 ml, while some of the stouts contain more than 6 grams/per 100 ml. The darker the beer, the more carbohydrate it is likely to contain. Light ales and lagers are generally not too bad.

Your language says pumping, but still a fast acting adjustment won't move you this much this quickly. If it was lantus or levemir, it absolutely wouldn't. SOmething else was at work, very likely a delayed bolus. Your carbs were also probably very high GI rated which tend to spike early. Alcohol can lower your BGs after drinking, but again this was too quick. And your constant visits to the crying room definately expelled some sugars |

| | | ha ha, I know how that is. I got very sick back in June for a similar reason. My blood sugar went up to 802 that time.
