overnite hypo...defunct brain!

Last nite i did the silliest thing i have ever done in my 20 years of diabetes.
somewhere in the middle of the nite my husband is handing me my bedside companion, bottle of lucozade insisting that i should drink some. my glucometer is also on my bedside table, i open it but cant figure out what it does... my mind is not working properly, i am low but dont know it and am thinking he is being so silly and put the cap back on lucozade and go right back to sleep!!
thank god i woke up in the morning...i have lost my diabetic sister 2 years back to an overnite hypo... realized that i was acting so stupid last nite and didnt have my lifesaver lucozade or juice or anything! sugar was 70 in the morning. my liver must have released some glucagon.
scary

I have done some dumb things also mwd. Next time have your husband stay with you until your blood sugar is back to normal.

I have tested, gone to the fridge knowing that I am low and then close the door and walk away because "nothing looks good". I am awful when it comes to treating lows. I have to trust my husband will follow through for me. Sounds like yours needs to do the same.

I woke up the other night sweating - drank some OJ, mmm good, drank too much and was 160 before breakfast.

Today, I tested and was 35. But, I was quite functional. Had smaller portion of OJ and was 90 at breakfast.

I don't really fear the super hypo at night anymore, because I don't do Lantus in the PM, and I don't split. I do lantus at breakfast and know that by 2AM all of that stuff is gone, for the most part. The past two mornings were interesting, but not the crazed, jumbled run for food and more food.

I am strong advocate for AM Lantus. No more early morning confusion. No more severe morning hypo.
