| | | Is this possible? Is it possible to have like a lack of concentration && and stuff like that with high blood sugar?? Its like weird things happen to me all the time.
Like yesterday I was at work and the right side of my face went numb for a few seconds, and not to mention my feet go numb sometimes too. I also get extremely bad headaches all the time. I don't know. I think this diabetes has gotten me pretty depressed.

| | | I'm T2, but before diagnosis I do remember having a lot of difficulty concentrating...I jokingly referred to it as my "40-fog." Amazing how that cleared when my numbers normalized. I also had rapid heart rate, sweating and just a general feeling of anxiety that went away as I became healthier, started eating better and got better control of my blood sugars.
Never had the face going numb though...have you mentioned these symptoms to your doctor?

| | Nicole, here is an old DF thread that might answer your question. Whats happening during hypo?

I think this diabetes has gotten me pretty depressed. | The one side of the face problem reminds me of Bell's Palsy (one of my siblings has that) but of course there are a number of other possibilities. I sure hope it's not even a minor stroke but if so you'll want that looked at right away! I hope things turn around for you quickly whatever the problem is.

| | | It was weird that was the first time that has ever happened, and it scared me. Whats worse is I was @ work when that happened.

| | | Before I was DX'd, I had severe problems maintaining focus and concentrating. My numbers were in the 500's when you feel this way you should test to see where you are at. Remember to chart everything. And yes the depression is there. I had it too, but when I got control of the situation, I started to feel so much better. Happier, and more in control of my life. Its a struggle, but it can be done, and the payoff is well worth it.

| | | I can barely do **** all when my blood glucose levels are high. I even find breathing in and out extremely difficult. Also my limbs hurt like
**** and I find walking difficult. It can differ from time time. Something simple like tying shoe lace can seem like a mammoth task and
often lead to frustration and anger. Its often difficult to do anything at all. I have spent days in bed when suffing from colds which have
resulted in high BG's. I do tend to lose my temper very easily when high too. For me its the worst part of diabetes when it happens.

| | | I was having a meeting with a tutor; towards the end of the meeting my brain stopped working: couldn't spell couldn’t type and started to get hot. Somehow I remained calm did a bg check 9.1mmol/L and gave myself a correction shot. I partly recovered almost immediately but symptoms went away as the insulin began to kick in. I’ve not experienced this before, but I imagine that what you described is possible. My feet go numb when I am high it’s usually a good sign, I really don’t like it and usually I am quick to correct it if I can. |

| | Sorry to hear about the rough time. Yes, the high sugar can cause the "fog"... in retrospect, I don't know how I put up with that for several years. Once you've had a sample of "feeling good" again, feeling half-bad seems worse than the out-of-control D used to.
Numb face? I've never had that. But a hypo sometimes brings tingly, falling-asleep arms along for the ride.
Best of luck at the endo today. And ask for some advice! If you wanted aimless nagging (reference to other thread), you could burn a CD and put it on loop for _much_ cheaper!

I guess I'm as ready for this appointment as I'm going to be =O
Ahh, forget her. She doesn't know what its like to walk in our shoes everyday. Its a little more stressful than she thinks. All she knows is what she was taught in school, lol =)
Thanks so much to ALL of you for the support and understanding. I'm glad I found this website. It feels good to have people I can relate to.

A well-meaning nurse friend freaked out when I told her how I'd been changing my types and timing. (Not drastically, mind you... but tweaking over time.)
What's taught in school? Distilled generalizations of empirical observations of a widely-varying population. A decent starting point, but not much more.
Medical pros have their place. However, I believe that my thousands of measurements (fasting, pre-prandial, various postprandial, spot-checking, when I feel bad, bedtime, etc.) are worth _something_.
All IMHO, of course.
Hang in there...

| | | When my sugars are high, it also spikes my blood pressure so i feel like i am in outer space, dizzy, nauseous (sp) the works.
When i go lo, i get deep pains in the muscles in my legs and can barely walk. I have tingly feet pretty much all the time now and have noticed that my hands "fall asleep" way more easily since i started on insulin a month ago.

I _thought_ I'd observed that in the ICU, but the doctors and nurses told me that BG and BP were decoupled. And I was certain that I'd noticed a BG/BP correlation after hospital... but unable to find much anything to confirm or refute what I believed.
Well, such is why I'm here: I have limited faith in what "experts" say; I put more faith in firsthand observation.
