Insulin Sensitivity...

The past 2 weeks have been strange.. I've been taking much better care of myself the past few months, things were desent before, mostly just trying to control the roller coaster ride lately, getting my morning numbers down etc.

I used to take 1 unit of bolus to drop my BG 20 points. The past 2 weeks it's slowly been changing.. Last week it was 1:30, today it's gone to 1:43 average. It's almost frustrating, I had it down perfectly, almost always hit my target, if not I'd always get it on the correction.. Kinda stinks though, unless my BG is 120 or higher, I cant correct. I like to stay around 90, but I'm fine with it being lower as long as I dont get into the 70's. Been low twice today because I havnt adjusted to the new ratio.. I'm just wondering how much more sensitive I will become, and why it happend.. Granted my numbers are better, they they werent all to bad before. I havnt increased in exercise, not much has changed. A change from 1:20 to 1:4X's is pretty dramatic. Guess it's a good thing I'm getting on the pump, anymore being around 120 I dont feel nearly as well as if I'm in the 90's, so I dont like keeping them above 100 anymore..

Any opinions?

LOL...

Officially, a little over 4 yrs.. But high BG numbers from blood tests show it going back 4 yrs prior to being "treated" for it.. I've had short periods of being sensitive, but never for this long.. Making it hard to figure things out, just got woke up from a low 20-30 mins ago, pretty bad one too, one of those you dont even bother messing with the meter to find out how low LOL... Kinda wish I would have done it, I ate a snack before bed, took a bolus to get me down around 100, 1 hr later it nose dived hard.. If I had to guess though, I'd say high 30's.. If thats the case, 1 unit to drop me 43 points, increased significantly.. To throw a twist into it, 2 weeks before this I had to increase the amount of insulin to carbs, and for corrections quite a bit, 1 unit for 15 grams of carbs, instead of my normal 1 to 20. I used to have to wait 1 1/2 hrs before I'd see my numbers coming down after eatting, normally I waited 2 hrs after eatting to test, now I'm doing it 1 hrs after eatting because I have been crashing around the same time. I'm not even 100% sure where I'm at now, I'm going to start keeping better track of things for a bit until I get it figured out since it's obviously changing.. I'm sure not complaining about it, but I had it down almost perfect, the basil, bolus, I was able to relax a bit and not have to constantly be on top of it.. Atleast it's not going the other way.

OK, Well you don't have the problem that I have like when I take a bolus of Novorapid and they say the onset is 10 - 20 minuets well I can wait to half an hour!!!
I would look at this before you eat. Have a test and if you see say 10 MMOL/L. Now don't freak out and have your bolus but don't eat just yet! then eat 20 minuets after your bolus. On the other hand and tested say below 5 MMOL/L then have your bolus and eat immediately. Have a go of that and see how you go.

That is no good at all and I hope that you're OK. Do you have anything that would get you out of a low with easy access??

Yes, This unpredictability gets me tossed too but then to understand on what value of that carb is and to match that to the bolus that you take. How often do you test?

I am going to think that your Basel needs to be looked at as I see that your Blood Glucose is all over the shop!! So I would spend a day not doing anything physical and take your usual Basel insulin shot and don't eat but test yourself and look for a 6 / 100 if you can and don't touch the bolus insulin!!!

Hey, We are in fact human and it's OK to make mistakes and knowledge is power and you will get that here.

I was going to guess that your basal might need an extra unit or two...I just increased mine two units today...after decreasing it about a month ago...I find I "swing" between 24-26...once I figured that out, the corrections were fewer.

This is what started happening to me on mdi, when I changed things around, then I was getting hypo city...tons tons tons

Your body is on it's way to loose weight, trust me I know....when you get the pump your gonna loose weight you will....I did....my isf, was around 1:40 then by the time I started pumping it was 1:70, now I am at 1:100, thank god for the pump...LOL.....the small incriments to lower bgs'....is great...

What you have to do now is decided is this really isf change or maybe your basal is needing to be lowered that is the only way, you can really pinpoint what it is.....oh and don't give up like i did right before I started pumping I just was like forget it I am about to pump, so the pump start was sooooooooo rocky.....try getting this nailed before the pump seriously

The basal is pretty close, a few weeks ago I started splitting it, which helped dramaticly with my morning numbers.. But I know thats why I'm going low at certain parts of the day ( 4pm. then anywhere from 2am to 4am, after 4am my BG rises a bit ).. The past few Sunday's I havnt ate anything, just so I can test things out, and I hold steady at or around 90, until 4pm. I'd cut down on the night time basal, but any less my BG gets pretty high when I wake up. Once I get on the pump, I can address the situation a bit better..

I test about 8-10 times a day, sometimes less if things are in check for that day..

I keep glucose tabs right beside me, with all the lows at night, they are a must..

I hope I dont start losing weight, I'm a toothpick as it is ( 6'4 168 LBS ). I'll keep an eye on my weight though..

Think I'm getting sick again, I stayed desently high all day today ( 130's 150's ), but in trying to bring it back down, it would either drop to the 50's 60's, or not change much at all.. I just dont have enough info to change anything right now, thats whats frustrating, but I'll just roll with it and see where it goes..
