changing insulin types

I'm currently on nph N & R,and will be going to lantus & novolog.and I was wondering what time do any you who are using novolog take it lunch, dinner. and on lantus when does it peak and how long does it last? I forgot to ask my doctor and when switching over is there a tendency to run low at night,and if anyone knows of any good carb counter site.

Lantus is supposedly peakless and lasts 24 hours. For a good carb counter site, check out calorieking.com.

As statdeac said, Lantus is peakless, but Lantus may last 24 h, the time duration differs for different diabetics. For me, it last about 22 h, but that’s no problem. For some few, Lantus only lasts 12 h. You should expect a week before the new adjustments and insulin stabilizes.

I have been using lantus and novorapid for 2 weeks now and I am not stabilised yet, although this week is better.

I've had no hypos in the night which is a great improvement, I just need to get the day time jabs right now. Overall I'm glad i changed over

)

when due you take the lantus,I'm taking it at noon but because of work I'm thinking of going to evenings

I take lantus just before bed, about 11.00 pm. The glucowatch readings are showing that its much more stable than my old insulin.

The novorapid appears to have a higher peak than humalog which i was using for meals, so i'm having to reduce the amount of novorapid I give. I have reduced the lantus slightly but not a significant amount

you have a gluco watch how do you like it? I didn't think they were accurate yet,does insurance cover it,thanks for your replys.I started using the lantis,and novolog 3 days ago and first results are excellent,today was the first day that i haven't been in the 200's at all avg. 110-130,only one low at 50,i took lantus at noon and had late lunch my falt but thanks for info

I am only borrowing one from the diabetes centre whilst i change over my insulin. In the UK you have to pay for the watch at about £300 unless you local health trust pays (which is few and far between). I don't think I will be paying for one as it often clocks out because of skipped readings and I am left with a sore arm for a few days afterwards.

I am glad your sugars are behaving, mine are much better this week. A bit low at times so I may reduce my lantus a bit more.
