Blood Work?

Hi I dont post much here but I read alot and it has definitly helped me get on track. Over the past few weeks I have gotten my blood sugars from 250-300 down to 150-200. This morning I got blood work done, then after I had breakfast as usual and an hour later it started dropping 140-120-106-80 for me I feel low at those numbers. I was having snacks and checking at ten minute intervals. I got to the point where I thought I was going to pass out and shaking really really bad and I had already had 3 glasses of OJ, fruit snacks, granola bar. Was wondering if it was the blood drawn that made it drop or if anyone has had a similar experience??

I try to keep my bg under 100 so your numbers would make me feel bad. I drink a small amount of OJ if I am low. A glass would put my numbers too high.

Did you fast for your blood work? If you did, then your basal insulin probably put you low? You only need to take 15gm of sugar and wait 15 min and then take another 15gm and so on.
You need to give the sugar time to work. Just sit and rest while waiting for it to go up. Be patient. You don't want to overtreat and then get your BG bouncing back HIGH! I know it feels awful, esp when you are used to the high BG..

The answer to your question is no, the drawing of blood does not make your blood sugar drop. There must have been a mismatch between your insulin requirement and the amount of insulin you injected, in terms of the amount of insulin injected, the timing of it, or both.

When you have been running consistently that high, lowering your BGs will give you the *false* symptoms of a hypo. You should not treat this kind of low but try to ride it out testing frequently. If you keep treating (and in your case, overtreating) high numbers, your body will never get used to running in the normal non-diabetic range of 70 to 110 that many of us strive for. An official hypo is anything below 65. Overtreating puts you on a BG rollercoaster. Not a good thing.
