I have been using Humalog for a couple of years now and in my pump for the last 16 months. I have had no problems with it but my Dr. says that the Novolog is a little more stable than Humalog. I generally have it in my pump for 4 to 5 days. He says tha tall the settings and how it reacts should be the same as the Humalog. Just wondering what others have experienced with the two.

I have switched from Humalog to Novolog to now Apidra in my pump and never had to change any of the pump settings besides the IOB time. That's something you'll have to figure out though for yourself. They are all suppose to be equal except for how long they stay in the body.

Anecdotal evidence on here, from my pharmacist, and from my endo says Humalog has a tendency to crystalize and occlude. I find it does. I tried two vials of Novorapid and it seemed to work better. I had no set failures.

I will be switching to Novarapid when I get around to seeing my endo. My idiot nurse practitioner won't wrote the script for me. Stupid dumb-***!

When I switched from Humalog to Novolog (for MDI), I was aware of it getting up to speed sooner. I read somewhere that the mean time to peak action for Humalog is 75 minutes, whereas for Novolog it is 52 minutes. I didn't think the difference was that big. But you may notice a difference when bolusing. Some people also find that Novolog finishes sooner and that it is stronger (they need less of it). I didn't notice these effects at all.

The differences are minor. My suggestion is to leave all the settings the same and tweak them afterwards, based on your experience.

I switched from Humalog to Novalog and had to lower my basals by 15%. It affects everyone differently, so I would advise you to check your bg frequently until you find out how you react to it.

I've been trying both Novorapid and Humalog (Humalog was while being on the first pump...) I don't notice that my doses changes, but i do get a better effect with Novorapid, it's more predictable for me than Humalog...

I too switch from Humalog to Novolog, almost a year ago. Only reason was, I got a boatload of Novolog for free from the camp I work at. My Dr. simply said some people notice the Novolog works for a bit longer, so as Jedi said, you may need to change the IOB. That being said, I noticed virtually no difference, except for less occlusions and "random highs".

Thanks for the info. I'll just leave all my settings the same but be very watchful of any changes.

As Jedi, I have done all 3 as well. I decided on Novolog due to the fact that is listed as a Generic Drug on my Rx card and I only have to pay $5.00 a month for it should I need to get it at my local Pharmacy. My pump supply company sends me my insulin now, and does not balance bill me for the supplies or the Insulin.

When I switched from Humalog to Novolog, I noticed that it seems to peak faster than Humalog for me, but had the same duration overall. Otherwise, there's been no difference in my pump settings.

I'm glad that I switched- the earlier peak seems to help with my post-prandial BG numbers. But, as always, YMMV.

I switched over a year ago and didn't notice any difference in the reaction to the basals and boluses that I take. My endo made the switch because he believes the Novolog is more stable, espeically as it relates to heat and I play a lot of golf in the summer.
