| | | Hypo Streak Broken It's been roughly four months since my last bad hypo.
My wife woke me at 2:30 am this morning because I was shaking and sweating profusely. She said I should test, but of course I said I felt fine and rolled back over. I did feel fine. Well she brought it to me anyway and I tested at 2.3. I didn't believe it so retested at 2.5. I probably would have slept through it unnoticed. A SunnyD soon followed. Man did that taste good! It was way too much though, so I bolused for half of it. I was fine this morning except that all the heat was off and the house was freezing, and I was naked and my bed was still wet. Not fun. |

Not fun. | The last thing I want when extremely low is anything to eat or drink. If I'm at anywhere between 55 and up I'm fine and food or anything sweet is welcome. It's like I literally have to force myself to swallow a couple of tablespoons of Honey. That's my favorite quick BG raiser I keep a big container of it right where I can get to it. Also it can be difficult to get my BG to rise so it literally takes 4 tablespoons or more over the course of a couple hours to get it to raise properly.
Yesterday at a restaurant called The Red Robin I was having a business meeting and orders some food and bolus'd for the food and ended up not eating what I bolus's for. Needless to say I had the worst low I can remember for awhile. Literally My peripheral vision started closing in and I thought I was feeling like Gumby. I quickly got a a soda and drank that and it actually worked very quickly, I was very surprised.
I also get anxiety or panic attacks to go along with those extreme lows, does anyone else?
My wife also is very good at keeping an eye on me for those things. Sometimes the lows will kreep up and you don't know there comming or when I'm low at times.
Well I guess we have to be diligent in keeping track of these things.

| | | I know it can seem like a loss to break a winning streak, but at the same time it's a chance to reflect on your win of four months. Hey we all have different benchmarks but if that is a good streak (irrelevantly, it would be awesome for me) then give yourself a pat on ze back.

| | I'm happy that you went 4 months without a low. Wish I could.
I'm glad you listened to your wife and checked. We need you (well, I do, at least) to stick around a little while longer.

| | | John,
Was it related to your b-day? Sorry your wonderful streak ended. You have a fabulous wife you know. My husband has saved me a couple times, but he's also gone a lot. Sounds like your wife is the best thing you've got going. No arguing or smart comments allowed.

| | I have had 3 this month (2.6/2.7/2.8) its been a bad month for lows. At least you have someone to help you At least it gives you a target for next time. We need a closed loop pump so that we never go low again. |

I then had a glass of wine before bed. I thought about setting an alarm, but I was too tired to want to get up in the night. Oh well.
I've put her through a lot which is one of the motivations to avoid them. I had nine last year and want six or less this year. I want zero 911s. I had one last year. These 2.5ers at night are nothing really. I really try hard to avoid the daytime ones when I could do something stupid like drive a car. |

My BG drops like a stone late afternoon - typically by about 1 mmol/l or more per hour. I usually get my wife to drive home since if I am nicely in target range when I set out, I can be borderline hypo by the time I arrive.
I checked my logs, and I have 25 incidences of 2.9 or less over the past month, mostly late morning or late afternoon. That's way too many for comfort. I have tried reducing my Lantus but taking even 2U less results in totally haywire overnight readings (I guess I need a lot less basal insulin during the day). I'm really starting to see how a pump could help - pity I have no chance of getting one here in the UK.

| | Well the next streak fizzled out abruptly Changed my set before supper. Around midnight I decide to hit the hay and I test around 16.5. ****** I didn't know if it was the set of dinner. I bolused hard and stayed up another two hours. I didn't move at all, so I changed sets amd bolused again. I got up around 5am and tested at 3.3 so I had half a juice. I should have had the full bottle. Later I fought off the hypo and finally crawled out of bed at 7:23am. No wife in sight and my son's door was closed. His bus comes at 7:45. I get him up and look for the car: gone! Why would my wife go to work without me? I find a phone and start calling ... someone ... All I know are two phone numbers and my son's name. I don't even know who I'm calling or why. I don't know my own name, what this building I'm in is, nothing. Almost total amnesia. I start wandering the house as my son madly heads for the bus. Soon after a call comes in and I answer. My wife was at a physio appointment and wants to know if I'm ready for work. Suddenly life kicks back in and I get ready for work. I ate a lot though. I was hungry. But ****it all if my 2hr pp isn't 17.9! And I'm still as hungry as a horse. I finally got under 10 at 4pm and have been fine since.*Arrrrrrgh* |

| | | Menace,
In spite of the current difficulties, you are an inspiration. Never thought of going for a record like that. Good way for some folks to set goals and do better.
Good luck to you and the rest of us working to smooth out the bumps on this roller coaster.
Mike

| | I couldn't remember if it was pizzaman3 or 4 though.
To sort of stay on topic, I haven't had a hypo in a few days, in fact I've only had 1 in the last 7, which is rare for me.
Course, that's half attributable to last weekened where I ate like a pig due to birthday parties and such.
Hard to go hypo when you're 20.5. :P

| | | One day and counting!
I do go low a lot. The only ones I count for this streak are the ones where I'm basically impaired and I or someone else needs to treat or else. I don't count the little ones, but I must go into the three's 2 or 3 times a week if not more. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
