| | | Insulin "sensitive" periods? OK,
No change in diet.
No change or increased daily workout.
No other health issues that could possibly make a difference.
No change on injection area or "newly opened Pen" etc..
I just have periods where I seem to go hyper sensitive for Insulin? I am not one of those who require a lot of insulin, but as said in periods that last about a month at the time (then all suddenly it goes back to normal), my doses have to be reduced to stupidly low levels for me to be able to cope with and not having to deal with lows all day long.
Is anyone else ever experiencing this? And what can it actually depend on? |

| | | Changes in the weather (and days getting longer) can do this to us. I've experienced it lately and lowered all my basal rates. Then during our little cold snap, I had to raise my rates a bit again!
Before I thought about the weather and naturally having spring fever, I was going low all the time, even though my basal rates hadn't changed at all.
Good luck!!

| | | yep I get those...
in my case the weather appears to be the major factor. in warm sunny weather I need much less insulin, than I do when it is wet/cold/rainy.
Last year I marked each and every day as to the dominant weather for around 3 months.
on wet/cold days my BG's were on average 1.5 mmol/l higher than they were on sunny days. I also noticed an effect where the longer it was sunny, the lower my BG's were.
I have recently experienced a big reduction in insulin needs, that has coincided with the very sunny weather that we have been experiencing in the UK. |

| | | I have read somewhere that some type 1's beta cells do grow back and are killed off again. While they are back, their insulin needs drop. I seem to recall a 20 year or so time limit.

| | | I have been going through the same thing too.
It is driving me crazy! I had to cut my doses all in half--
sometimes more. I want to go back to the days when I knw exactly what was going on with my meals and post-meal BG's
so I could control it all. Now I am just confused and
feeling overwhelmed.
All I want are numbers I can know and predict.

| | Well i am pleased that I am not the only one. I have stupidly low insulin requirements, on average I am doing 0.5-2.5-2.5 (units of novo) with 7units of Lantus. A month ago I was doing on average 2-3.5-3.5 with 11units of Lantus. I can't really believe it, but evidently it’s possible. |

| | | Its part of the beast. Not much can be done about it really. you just have to learn to deal with periods and carry on with life. |

| | Ah I am glad to see I am not the only one! And yes it does make sence..kind of, with weather and perhaps also just your mood in general. I just wish I could make those periods stay forever.. Perhaps I should move to a country that has less variations in seasons
am running only on Lantus right now, perhaps 1 unit of Novorapid to one of the meals if its a slow day..almost like the honeymoon 28 years ago... | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
