time of adjustment on Levemir?

Just started on Levemir 6 days ago. I have been going too low at night so each night I have made small adjustments in my doses, and started splitting it with a morning dose. I am wondering if it takes a few days for the body to adjust to one dose, or if it is what it appears to be and if one night it sends me too low, I should take less the next night.
Does it take a few days on the same dose or not? Thanks!

Yes I would look at a few days to see the balance is right for you since that this insulin is a basel. Also how are you with the bolus as this can stuff the balance up too.
Do you exersice because if you do that will also alter your BG's as well.

How do you do your monitoring? I use the computer as that gives me an idea on the A1C or constant Blood Glucose that will look at the basel better.
Welcome to the forum too.

Thanks Anthill!

I am so glad you took the time to reply. I am getting ready for my nighttime dose and am still not sure which way to go.
I am on metformin ( 4 x 500 mg) and gluconorm . This is my first experience with insulin. Levemir is it.
I use my Contour so many times a day - used to be 7 or 8 before Levemir, but since last week I am going through the strips like crazy! Especially with going low at night, I am testing so often. I do go on the stationary bike 2-3 times a day . Maybe I will try 1/3 units tonight and 2/3 in the morning to help me stay in good range through the daytime. Hate waking up to the lows.
Guess everybody goes through this at the beginning til they reach the best balance?

Yes thats right. It can take awhile to find a correct balance with basal insulins. You just have to stick with it and find a dose which works for you.
I also find that for a few week of first using a new insulin my dose requirement is lower. Not sure if this is because of the body getting used to the insulin. But it sure does happen for me everytime.
