| | | Exercise Log - Can somebody help me figure this out? I have been unable to get a good exercise routine going because I always either go low or high. I will post a log on this thread and maybe one of you guys can help me. Thanks
Day 1: Woke up at 126 BG, Ate 2 pieces of toast and an omelette (40c) only bolused for 20c (3.3u + .5u correction) - 15 minutes of exercise on a stationary bike - BG 15 minutes later was 117. So far so good.

| | | Are you pumping or needling? Set a 50% temp basal on the pump for the workout.

| | | pump, but 50% at what time? it would have to be before i start exercise or during so it affects me later. And should i eat the 20c as well or just 50% basal?

| | I usually just set it about 10 minutes before I start and it seems to do just fine. But, you have to play with percentages and amounts. It is different for everyone. I usually set my pump to .55 for a basal when I am exercising and it seems to do the trick. Good job on doing all this though! It shows you are ready to make changes and that is awesome Good Luck!

| | | Have you read "Pumping Insulin by John Welch and Ruth Roberts" (Pumpers bible)
There is a chapter on diabetes, pumping and exercize.
I take drastic nose dives with my sugars durring, after, and sometimes upwards of 24 hours after strenuous exercize.
I decrease my basel rate by 50-75% depending on the exercize, but then there is ONE form of exercize that I have to increase my basel rate by 20-30% because I will run HI otherwise.
Also I do this 2 hours BEFORE I start exercizing, and keep it at the same rate for 1-2 hours AFTER I finish my routine
Also if you go high before bed, it could be that you might need to tweek your basel rates a bit to get your sugars down a bit before bed.
I have had that happen (normal all day long, then sky high at bedtime), I increased basel rate nightly by 0.05 until I was normal. I would also wake up at 0300 to make sure that my changing my basel rate (increase) was doing what it should be. (mind you, depending on the day, I get to go to bed between 10 and 12 p and some nights I am awake all night.. expecially when we have emergencies and I am oncall)

I have had similar problems with intermittant spikes 2 h after exercise. Corrections won't affect it, you just need to sit it out.
