Datinting a Diabetic

I'm not dating but just read this story of a woman who did for the first time. I wonder what my wife goes through at times. So while reading this story I just had to wonder.

Dating a diabetic - MSN Dating & Personals

I wasn't in here looking for a date but caught this story so I read it.

Good story but almost sounds made up.

Either completely made up for the sake of a story or the man in question is an idiot.

First of all, you'd go to the Sangria bar but just have one / drink something else.

'Dead in bed?'. Uhuh. Not something you'd say to a ladee you were wanting to impress.

Going for a long jog on a beach with no fast acting carbs on you? With a new date who you then expect to bail you out? Not a chance.

Thinking that an olive can slow down the carbs in Vodka. Vodka has no carbs (unless it's a dodgy brand with a sugar-content flavouring, but if this is done right it's also zero carbs).

He then tells her that he is intelligent and responsible. After running on a remote beach with no carbs...

Good story I agree. Maybe a little too good is what Mike thinks . . . .

You make me laugh Gary. There are a lot of dumb people in the world . . . and yeah, a lot of diabetics are dumb too. I didn't think dead in bed was painless either. I think the gf read that instead of him telling her (?) Some women do like caring for others, even too much.

I had no critique of the story other than what goes through the mind of a person who has no knowledge of diabetis other than what they see.

I have been treating this for 7 years and my wife has her own thoughts and I just wonder after reading that.

We never know what goes on in some one elses mind no matter how well we think we know them. It almost seemed to be this persons private reactions to her experiences. We do not know what his words were. I guess trying to understand the other side here that is all.

I'd never reveal that I was diabetic just as someone was asking me on a first date.

This guy sounds like a car crash waiting to happen and very under prepared. Would be good if we could send him an email with a link to this forum, he sounds like he needs help. Still it sounds like he’s got an awesome girl friend; at least she cares enough to find out about his diabetes, something that he evidently hasn’t done himself.

Knowledge is not Intelligence. A lack of thirst for knowledge might be a lack of intelligence, but that doesn’t make him dumb, it just means he is ignorant.

That article is really annoying me. The guy is a idiot both dating and diabetic wise, sorry. "i cant drink sangria?" how about "great idea", and then just drink dietcoke or whatnot. And as someone said, go to the beach for a jog, on a first date and not bring glucose? and have the guts to then say he can take care of himself after scaring her half to death? Mentioning dead in bed to a new date and have her lie awake at night? a couple of trips to the emergeny room in 3 months? I'm annoyed, because reading the article people might think that that's how it actually is to date a diabetic. It is not.

Im dating quite frequently, and decided not to tell my dates about the diabetes. If they ask, sure, but not otherwise. If all goes well, i'll tell them after a while. It's important for me to be able to do all these things like a non-diabetic, partying, dating, eating out and all that. And it is very possible, without having lows or highs. In fact, it's my biggest motivation to take care of my body and exercise, cos i doubt it would be as easy without such care. I feel i make enough sacrifices on a day to day basis as it is, im not going to let it affect the good stuff in life(dating that is, and all that comes with it, eh. and parties, oh and burgers, definitely burgers. oh and beer.)

i hope it's a fake article.

Seemed a little fake to me... perhaps based on some experience but it just didn't read right. Maybe it's sorta true but 'dumbed down'.

What's carbon 14?

Edited to add:
OK! Uncle Google answered that for me - very funny :P

For the record, I'd propose a shorter-lived isotope.

I support markr's carbon 14 idea since true love lasts forever!

Haha! I know it...

I agree, thomasb. That's not how it is to date a diabetic- just an irresponsible one.

I like how he had his meter with him but no sugar or money. Good one. I also like how he's her "boyfriend" a week after they start dating.

I agree, seems fake.
