its not nuts after all!

after having issues with a rising Bg for no apparent reason after my evening meal has finished. unexplained Bg's everymorning of 6.9 when my target bg is 5.2

i thought it was the tons of nuts i consume everyday!

well ive gone 2 days without my beloved nuts and the Bg thing is still lurking! very strange!

so some serious basal testing is called for!

Sharon,

What meds are you taking? Have you tried varying the time of your evening meal? I have found the best time for me to eat is around 8-9pm and then take my Metformin 9-10pm, it made a big difference to my morning BG, bringing them down from 6.8 to below 6 each morning. That if get a good walk in during the day then my next morning's BG are way down. Weekend before last I was doing a lot of walking and each morning had BG down around 4.7-4.8.

Sharon, So you can enjoy nuts again.
See John (Xmenace) for some advise if you will. I think and you don't have to follow my thinking is just add your basel 1U and that may be enough but that's me.

davef ~ i take insulin and citalopram 10mg.

peter lol i shall hold off eating nuts for a bit until ive done some proper basal testing on this.

the weird thing is my Bgs dont rise between 1am and breakfast, so i'm definately thinking its the basal in the between 6pm and midnight.

Not only do 99+% of us have dawn phenomenons to some degree, but many of us also have what we call dusk phenomenons, a rise during the evening hours. Mine is not as high as my morning one, but it lasts longer - 5pm till midnight for me. No I cannot explain why it happens.

ooh, that'll be hard testing evening basal---good luck.

I can't make myself go that long without eating.

Question: Could it be that your basal insulin is running out, in other words.

I inject basal at 11:30 pm local time every night, I watch moring readings carefully for Dawn Phenomenon, but I also keep close eye on last 2-3 hours to make sure my basal is lasting the full 24 hours.

I fact, once in a while, I even go 26-27 hours and do checks to make sure basal is holding up.
