I wonder...

I swam competitively until age 14. Sometimes I'd start feeling "blah" around age 17-18, but chalked it up to the death of someone very close. I'd feel "clouded" if I didn't eat often enough.

My weight increased around 1999-2000, then dropped seemingly on its own. A couple years later (2001? 2002?), I began having the "three polys", and feeling increasingly clouded.

Somewhere along the way, I garnered the nickname "Edwardosaurus". It was reportedly due to my temperment, which family members likened to a tyrannosaurus.

For two months prior to DX, I'd been having wicked intestinal trouble. Unbelievably putrid flatulence every few minutes, discomfort, toilet bowls would grow mold within days of me using them, and I even recall voicing that "a coma sounds attractive". I was doing 55-80 g/day of vitamin C (65 on average), thinking I just needed to get over a little intestinal bug...

When I was out-of-state on business, DKA hit. I initially figured it was food poisoning... but, after 18 hours of excruciating vomiting (including bile for the last 12 hrs) and urinating every few minutes, was driven to the ER.

BG was "only" 360. A1c was 12.9%. "Glycated hemoglobin" (but not A1c) was 19.0%. Blood pH still was slightly basic (IIRC), but I had plenty of ketones.

A scan revealed that I had an intestinal blockage. Doctors kept asking if I'd had prior surgery that might have left scarring. (No.) It turned out that my intestines had just given up and shut down.

Sometimes it's probably worth seeing a doctor, even if one lacks medical insurance...

My A1c was 6.8 two months ago. I was on metformin for the last 4-5 weeks before testing again. I am anxious to see what change there was...better, same, or worse. I will see on Wednesday....fingers crossed. I also stopped the meds. because I was so miserable while taking it.

I was never sent off to hospital when i was diagnosed T1 Or well, i refused to go unless i really had to... I knew quite a bit about diabetes already at that time, so i convinced my doctor to just prescribe the things i needed, have someone showing me how to use it and then let me go home and do some more reading So we did, and i've never been admitted to hospital because of Diabetes

Hi Everybody,

New here but thought I would chime in.

My A1C was 14.6 with a BG of over 400 at diagnosis. After my first 3 month period I had it down to 6.4 with a lot of work......

My BS was 800 at Dx. Never been so thirsty ever. A1c was 6 then but it's 8.6 now. Sure would like it lower.
