grapes

i havent really eaten grapes other than with a meal and just about to eat some as snack. according to my rather elementary GI book im going to be taking in about 12g of carb and low GI which indicates to me a unit of insulin at same time as i eat....what would anyone else do? it says low GI but theres plenty of simple sugars in there and not a hugely fibrous skin to slow the release?

I make a chicken salad from leftover chicken breast, I can eat as much as I want and do not have any BS rise. One of my daughters made the same recipe but added grapes. I didn't think it would make that much difference, but I had a big spike after eating a small serving. Don't know why I didn't know that, I sometimes use grapes for a low.

Grapes are one of my fav snacks.
Doesn't appear to move my BD much.
Of course I'm not eating a pound at one sitting.
Try it and then test. See what happens.

One of the highest readings i've had since diagnosis came after having about 10 white grapes and cheese for lunch one day. I can have 3-4.....but who wants only 3-4 grapes!!!
Fortunately, there are other fruits I enjoy just as much and can tolerate better.

I can eat a serving of cantaloupe or honeydew melon, blueberries/strawberries and green apples w/o problems. I can also tolerate 1/2 a banana, though I don't have this often (because I want MORE and 1/2 a banana).

Like you, pineapples are a "no-no" for me...and I love them! I don't think i've ever had a clementine...and i'm not a fan of oranges so I don't know what effect they would have.

Grapes seemed to have been ok for me, and I was surprised as I thought they would have more of an impact. Most fruit I am ok with in moderation. I find frozen fruit can be a little trouble. Usually it is a strawberry/blackberry/rasberry/cherry mix, but I think what does it is the juices that drain out and seem to accumulate, as opposed to the fruits themselves. Fresh fruit I've been fine with. The exceptions for me would be a large banana (the really big ones), pineapple not in moderation, and dates. Dates have a really high GI, >100. I have found them good though to consume before exercise, or to treat a hypo.

I also can't eat grapes unless I bolus heavily for them. Everyone is different with different fruit. I absolutely cannot eat cantaloupe, but watermelon is fine. I can eat strawberries, raspberries, apples, bananas and peaches and pears.

You just have to experiment with fruit to see what bites you back later.

Everyone eats food differently too. Like when I eat pistachios I usually have 5-6 at a time, as I like them, but I was never a nut person, and mostly just eat them now as they're a good carb-free snack. Other people I know though are liable to have 20-30 when they dig in. So it definitely depends on the person. I know for me with grapes I don't usually have more then about 8-10 just because that is my preference. (other foods like pizza I know I have far worse tendencies then the average person!) Test and see is probably the best advice.

Grapes + Me is a willpower disaster. I cannot weigh out a portion and stick to them. They don't kill me off because of the GI or anything else. It's purely that I eat too many of them given half a chance. It's the problem with any small fruit. Get a huge grapefruit, weigh it, bolus for it, eat it. You don't eat another grapefruit straight after. Eat 10 grapes? Another 3 won't hurt. Nor will that one. Those two were small and only count as one...

As others have said, there is but one way to find out.

For me, grapes are faster than dates, which are faster than apples, but nowhere near as fast as pineapple.

With pineapple, I bolus with rapid... then wait 20 minutes, or until I start feeling like I might go hypo; it's almost always the former.

I frequently split my pineapple consumption in half. That's doable when you're eating a whole pineapple... especially since then I only wait ten minutes before the first half of my serving.

I thank you for the beer that just came out of my nose and went over my keyboard...

I too find grapes irresistable but I can't say I've looked at them in quite the same way as you
