Thanks!

Alice and Andy, I'll see you at my birthday party with your pumps! LOL!

"Shifty", 1/3 bionic , eh? Hey, I might live until that birthday bash and still be walking around. thanks for the idea! LOL!

Cin, you'll host the party? I have a son in Morrisville, NC, near Raleigh. Are you close by?

Jules, it sounds like you enjoy life despite your handicaps. That's great! I hope you get to travel some and at least see things in Texas.

Thank all of you for your comments!!

I heard recently that if you contact the Joslin clinic they are very keen to learn about anyone who has been on insulin for many years... I understand that they award a medal for 50 years, so I'd say you had earned that and then some I also hear that the Banting Institute sends out a framed photo of the Institute for 50 years.

Best Wishes and many more years

~ Frank

Thank you Richard for that wonderful autobiography. That story has to inspire just about everyone. I just couldn't stop reading it. I wish you a long and happy retirement and many more years being inspirational.

Richard

with your background in mathematics why don't you get together with a software person and come up with a program which when you put a couple of weeks readings, carbs and insulin data in calculates basal rates, carb ratios and sensitivities in. It would make life so much easier. Or do you think it would be just too hard.

Thanks for your story and inspiration.

this is the first time i've checked this thread out... the story is kinda long so i copied and pasted it into Word and printed it out... it'll give me something to read tonight instead of my harlequins LOL... from what i could gleam so far, the simple fact that you've made it this far, and after so many years of diabetes, it's amazing that you're still so UP about life... you've seen so many changes to the medical system and advances in medicine for this disease, to spend a day in your brain or have access to your memories would be thrilling...

i'll go read your story now and give my full thoughts tomorrow...

Thank you for sharing your story with us Richard! I always wondered what it was like to be in your shoes for just a little while. You are so fortunate to have such luck with your health. I, fortunately, haven't had too many problems or complications even though I didn't care too much about my diabetes when I was younger. It was most especially hard during my teen years but I've survived and thus far have only had very little protein spills in my kidneys - in which I'm in treatment for at this moment. I've had diabetes for 16 years and I hope for another set of 'more controlled' diabetes for the next 16 years to come.

Again, thank you and happy pumping!

Thanks Cole and Vicky! I am presently doing a major overhaul of my story. I am adding much new material and many pictures. When there is enough content for a book I will try and get it published. I hope to submit it in complete form by the end of this year if not sooner.

Richard

I much enjoyed reading your story, Richard, thanks so much for posting it! I'm 55 yo and T2 for 10 years and the next time I feel a "woe is me" coming on, I will think of you!

PS: I'm born and raised in Northern VA and I live in Anita's home town of Falls Church. (Tell her it's changed a lot and NOT for the better!). I'm also very familiar with the "Great Southwest" of Virginia because of my 40 years of pickin' the 5-string banjo. I have played bluegrass all over the Piedmont area, maybe even your hometown!

I love bluegrass and the sound of the banjo. Ricky Skaggs and Rhonda Vincent are my current favorite bluegrass personalities. Can't forget Alison Krauss though. I will tell Anita about your living in Falls Church. Thanks for your comments!

I'm also from Roanoke Virginia, Richard where do you live now? Your story has given me so much hope. I've always had it in my mind that because of the diabetes I wasn't going to make it long in this world. I don't think that way anymore...although I still worry a lot. You are very inspiring, I hope that you are very proud of yourself for doing so well with something so difficult.
