| | How Long Diagnosed as a Type 1 at age 18, 29 years ago. Really scared me then, as my Mom (age 43), Uncle (age 39), sister (age 18) and cousin (age 16) all died from complications of Type 1. So of course I thought I was going to soon. Obviously I didn't.
Been pumping since 1988 (my youngest son-now 19) had just been born (10 pounds 11 oz. 3-weeks early!) Times and treatment have changed drastically-Thank goodness! Staying active and healthy are the biggest key.

I was diagnosed approx. two weeks before my 10th birthday on January 19th, 1982. Have had Diabetes for 26 years and going.

Used metformin, amaryl, supplements, and janvia. on and off.
Nothing worked the way its supposed to. Excercised like crazy, ate extremely low carb (30 per day), took meds on and off.
A1C - Dec 2007 - 7.2
Diagnosed with Type 1 April 2 2008 with positve GAD and Islet Antibodies.
No Meds for 2 weeks and no insulin yet. Still seeing normal numbers - between 75 - 150
On the Raw Food Diet. |
