Diabetes Expo

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has gone to a Diabetes Expo, given by the American Diabetes Association? They are having one next week on CT and was wondering if it was worth it to go?

Thanks!

I've never been, as I've not heard of one in my area. I know Dewey goes to them on occasion, and one of our members is in Chicago at one this weekend. I'm sure she'll report on it when she comes back.

I say if there's one nearby, definitely go and check it out. I'll bet you can learn a lot about whats new on the horizon in diabetic care, meds and management...and if you do go, be sure and report back and share your experience.

I go every year to the one in pittsburgh. Sometimes I go looking for particular things, sometimes just for info. I usually walk away feeling it was worth it. Last year I didn't think it was so hot. One year I went looking at pumps...as it turned out I switched which pump I got because of the info I found. This year we'll go early to try and score some good free stuff. It all depends who's at the Expo.

I went to the Portland Expo this year, and I will be going to the Seattle Expo next week with my dh and mortis505 from here.

The Portland Expo I kind of went through and saw everything, picked up a couple of free pens, got the "sick day" kit that Safeway was giving away as well as a few of their "green" shopping bags. I talked with my Cozmo rep and convinced a 12 year-old to try the Cozmo. My rep gave me a nice Cross pen.

That was where I also found out that the Navigator was approved, three days before they announced it publicly. I wanted to stay and do some of the free testing that they do, but my 16 year-old was getting tired of following me around everywhere and since she was too big for the bounce house and rock climb they had in T1 World, she was bored. We did get some free samples of some kind of frozen yogurt that was yummy...I can't remember the name of it now though. There were also some vendors there that I felt didn't really belong, like the candle people...I just didn't get that.

I'll write up a review of the Seattle Expo after I go next week.

This will be the first one I have ever been to but I am looking forward to it. For starters I will be with Rikki and Troy. Should I pack the 4 disc R.H.P.S. set??? Secondly, I wanna see the new toys. Third, freebies. All in all it should be fun..

Hi,

I went to the CT Diabetes expo a few years ago. I may try to go again next week if nothing comes. The event was small compared to the Boston expo, but still worth going since you're new to diabetes. All the major companies will be there with product demonstrations. They also have health screenings, lectures, Cooking demonstrations and more.

Thanks for the info! I think I will absolutely go! I cant pass up free stuff and i think it would be cool to see what's new out there.

There is one in NYC in September, maybe I'll go to that one also. I imagine that one will be very large!

I didn't know they even had such a thing, I think I will go to the Portland one next year! I am registered along with my family to do the Walk for Diabetes this year, I did it in 2004, it was pretty cool.

Hi Jules and welcome aboard.

I go to the Expo every year, and love the interaction with all the reps., not to mention seeing new products that will soon become available. For someone who's into new gadgets, decent info. and more, it's a great place to check it all out.

To me, it's almost like going to a CTIA or GSMA event (where they show all the latest & greatest cell phone/other gadgets). It's definitely worth checking out. Please let us know how your visit goes if you attend one. Once again, welcome to the forums.
