Type 1's on MDI.. question (no pumpers please)

So I was wondering what all you type 1's on MDI morning numbers are... I seem to be around 160 no matter what I go to bed at... I really don't want to increase lantus anymore, but I guess I might have to...

I was wondering what y'alls morning averages are...

I usually wake up between 90-120 on a good day The only real time this changes is during particularly hormonal (womanly) times :P

If you are NOT dropping at night...try cutting one carb serving from your dinner...about 15 grams. That might help with your morning number. I've been down that road (increase or decrease Lantus) and found that the two overlap quite a bit...fast acting left-over glucose and Lantus.

I just cut my Lantus down by 3-4 units and found my numbers stay about the same in the morning...only now, I really try not to eat late...where as before, I always needed a "bedtime snack" to prevent a low.

My daily pre-meals were always good...but are about the same now by cutting the Lantus.

It's a weird ballet that changes about once a month with me. I'll gradually be adding a unit or two of Lantus back within 2 or 3 weeks...

It sounds like your basal needs increase in the early morning. Have you considered adding some pre-bed NPH into the mix? Titrating it up to the point where morning blood glucose comes in line is a lot easier than doing this with Lantus.

90 day average is 92, I am still waiting of course for the choppy waters of the post-honeymoon to push me to a pump however.

Last three monthly averages 5.1 to 5.3 - but there's still beta cell activity moderating things . . .

I'm usually somewhere between 5.0 and 7.5mmol/l when waking up, so i put 91-120 This is on MDI, and it's the same on the pump... I'm pumping at the moment, but planning to switch back to MDI any day now due to summer temeratures making my site itchy quite often... Been pumping (again) now since early april... I'm an on and off pumper lol

I used to wake up in the <70, sometimes 70-90 range, so I cut back my PM Lantus dose by 1 u and now I wake up pretty consistently between 150-200. Neither of these is a good choice, but I still think I'd rather wake up on the low side so I've bumped my PM Lantus dose back up by 1 u.

I'm usually in 70-90. Sometimes a bit higher if I've had a late snack or something else I can't explain.

You didn't have a choice for "variable as the weather", but after I upped my Lantus from 28 to 32, my fasting BG has been generally in the 70-120 range, so I voted 91-120. Could be lower, could be higher.

I aim for, like, and generally am, sub-90. Lately, though, I've had a few bad mornings where I awoke in the 140-160 range.

Perhaps I am not immune to latent BG spikes from high fat consumption... I've not observed that during the day, but I begin to suspect that some high-fat snacks/meals before bed may be my culprit.

At least I've mostly cured my upon-awakening hypos. (I attribute that to the Lantus-to-Levemir switch.)

Anywho. I digress. Apologies for hijacking the thread.

I had this problem for a while. My doctor asked me if I ate a small snack before bed. my answer was no. So he instructed me to eat something small before bed . I tried that and it worked.

If I'm higher than I'd like in the morning the first thing I check for is the 3am hypo. Rebounds really stink. I would set an alarm for the middle of the night and see what my blood sugar was doing before I made any changes.
