As to why weather can have an impact, I don't have a really good answer. But it does seems the case that people's metabolism can sometimes change in different temperatures.

For me, hot weather often increases my basal needs - at a guess, a hot summer day I can need maybe 20% more, and I need to be very careful with meals and bolusing too - as my BG loves to go high in the heat - and stubbornly stay there.

I'm the opposite I use a lot less insulin in summer than in winter- if not eating too much ice cream that is But generally, i need less basal and my I:C changes a bit too in summer. We've just had high summer temperatures here now for the past few days, and i've had to lower my doses so much Been hypo at least once daily Seems like i've found my balance again now though...

I've never given it much thought...but I seem to be using less now that the temp is reaching 80-90 degrees. But, knowing me...that's not much to base a big study on!

Weather plays a siginifcant role in my insulin intake.

Remember during colder weather your body will work more to stay warm (shivering, generally more movement, etc), and will therefore rely on less insulin basal and sometimes bolus as well.

Warmer weather allows your body to rest and not work to stay warm, and therefore can effictively/comparatively send blood sugars higher than what they would in cooler weather. I noticed this when i moved overseas for 8 months from a 35 degree summer to a -10 winter, and was going hypo *ALL* the time. My endo explained this phenomenon to me when i arrived back home

This also may be because you are generally more active in summer, and this offsets the general effects your body gives to insulin by working during colder days.

You probably get out more and walk around more in Summer than you do in Winter.

You'd be surprised at just how much weather can play a part on your insulin intake needs

Anyway, I hope this helps

I know that's the case with me.

I spend W-A-Y more time doing physical activities in the warmer months than I do in colder months (read "Colder" as being anything under 65 F / 18 C)
