| | | What NOT to do to avoid a Hypo Hmm
I Took my breakfast (basal & bolus) insulin ... but skipped breakfast
I then took mu regular lunch time insulin (bolus only), but my meal^H^H^H^H^Hsnack was very low-carb (c. 100g dry-roasted nuts ... 13.7g carb ...)
just measured my blood at 3mmol (too shakey to convert that into old-school measurements ... but it should be no lower than c. 4.5mmol) |

Not sure if you know, but as you have diabetes you are eligible for the free flu vaccine, I got one last Dec as part of my regular check up. And WOW that was low.
I'm Type 2 and generally treat anything below 3.8, just tested before driving home and I'm 4.2 (75.6) which is still within my comfort zone, I'll check again when I get home and if around 3.8 I'll have small glass of milk to bring it up nice and easy before dinner later.

Yeah - when I hit 1.5, I was wandering around work in a Daze. One of my colleagues recognised the symptoms and got me a packet of sweets (200g of "fizzy cola bottles"). Of course, once I started eating them, I was so low that I just kept going ...
man, did i have a headache once I "sobered up"

Glad to see you are doing better now. It's a mistake we all make. Even us "long timers" make this mistake from time to time.

| | | It's amazingly easy to neglect to treat a hypo sometimes. For instance, I've just had a bit of a low because I was trying not to offend my cleaner!! Had just cycled home and felt a bit low and popped two just-in-case jelly beans. But then I got caught up talking to my cleaner, who is Chinese and has very little English. Neither do I speak Chinese. She was evidently distraught because she comes from the province that was devastated by the earthquake. She was trying to tell me her news and I didn't want to interrupt her because what she was saying was so important. So I stood there - within reach of the fridge! - politely feeling my BG drop. By the time she left - probably ten minutes later - I felt wretched. But I got over it! Yet I wish I wouldn't do that and that I could put myself first in those situations cos she'd have been even more distressed had I collapsed in front of her. Anyway, I trust you feel better now, Cormac! |
