Interesting article… Vitamin (B1) deficiency a factor in complications?

Hi All,

I remember reading this interesting article last year and managed to dig it out. This also appeared on the TV through BBC (links below)

Like most things you can’t be sure how accurate all of this is, but I thought that I would go out and buy some Vitamin B1 aka Thiamine after a little research of my own (more around if it’s harmful to take etc).

I have been taking one a day since then and figure that it can’t harm me and the worst that could happen is that my pee turns a funky luminous colour (which is hasn’t). I know this isn’t an amazing cure of any kind but if the research in the article is correct and by somehow taking this supplement can help then why not.

This is my first real post and hope this is somehow relevant here

Any thoughts are welcome

Interesting stuff - I just came from my doc this am and told me that she wanted me to start taking Vitamin B and that I can drop my milti vitamin.
B helps with autoimmune diseases.

Many thanks for posting this Tim... interesting article and I suspect I will be adding B1 to my bag of tricks... Cheers

I do miss the BBC... they still do a great job of intelligent and impartial news reporting without the hype.

I've seen this before, but I heard that the issue isn't that people aren't taking enough, but that their body is not retaining enough of it. I do take a supplement anyway, but it sounds like it may not be the only answer to solving the problem.

Yeah, that seems to be the rub there. Maybe supplements can help, but it's like pouring more water into a glass that's got a big hole in it.

Ah very interesting - I'll have to look further into that! I take a multi-vit but have considered taking Bs too. The B range are also known to help with stress, aren't they? And whether we're prone to stress or just feel it because of D, anything that helps would be marvellous!

The woman in the BBC vid had such great numbers - I spotted 4.1 and 4.8 - if I was being followed around by a TV crew I'm sure my numbers would have shot up miles high due to the stress of it all!
