Medical IDs

Just out of curiosity, how many of us first of all even wear an ID. If you do do you personalize it in any way? I used to just use an ID tag stolen from a teddy bear I got apon diagnosis attached to beads that I chose in a bracelet but, after three times of trying and it breaking I gave up, hmmm I tend to wear things out very easily.

I wear one. I never take it off and I've gotten to the point that I don't notice its there. I got it at Road ID® check out their site. They have bracelets. anklets, dog tags, shoe tags. all of which have are available in an interactive version similar to Medic Alert.

I know, I know, I sound like a commerical but I really do like their product.

I have a heavy stainless ID bracelet with a heart charm tag (think Tiffany style) I wear it all the time. I don't think I could break it if I tried!

I've made my own from one of those stainless steel bracelets that were so popular a few years ago- the ones you can buy new pieces for... I've bought T, 1, D for it. I wear it all the time, even before i was diagnosed... Just upgraded it shortly after diagnose with those new pieces... It's discrete enough, but i think a paramedic would get the hint

I don't wear one but probably should as I am on insulin. Stupid vanity -- I have not seen any of the jewelry that I like I guess that could be about as dumb as not wearing a seatbelt so as not to wrinkle your dress

I have the medic alert dog tags, but it keeps getting tangled in my scapular so I may switch to a bracelet.

My wife has diabetes insipidus and wears a lot of things around her neck so she also wants a bracelet, of course she picked a most expensive one out

Wish someone would come up with something really nice, attractive and discreet for people to wear that would notify emergency people of a person's special needs. A really pertty ID bracelet with medical conditions and meds listed inside and a small symbol on the face, or a locket, or engraved on the back of a watch with just a tiny symbol on the face. While I don't want to wear something that stands out and makes everyone aware that I am D, I would like to find something discreet that could assist emergency people in the case of an emergency.

I usually wear an S.O.S necklace that unscrews and has info inside. I've been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo with my name, t1 diabetic and my NHS number on it tho.

Medic Alert has really nice expensive bracelets, to the tune of $600

I have a gold plated medic alert bracelet for dressy occasions. And I have a Road ID bracelet for when I'm working in the yard or the machine shop. My Road ID is much safer than a floppy metal bracelet when working around machinery or gardening! Always wear my ID when out and about for peace of mind.

When I was first diagnosed, back in the dark ages, 1981, I used to wear an SOS thing on a watchband. In my job as a secondary teacher, I got heartily sick of having to explain to all and sundry why I was wearing two 'watches'.

I haven't worn a 'diabetic alert' for years, but I do carry a yellow card in my wallet that apprises anyone who might happen to go through my wallet of my diabetic status.

Given my cynicism, I think if I had an accident on my bike, whoever stopped would be most likely to go for the wallet first, for whatever reason!

Hope I haven't mozzed myself by reading all the responses in this thread. Touch wood.

Right now my beautiful gold bracelet (it looks more like jewelry than a medic alert) is being held together by dental floss [lol] and I for sure notice when it comes off. I feel naked without it! I gotta buy a clasp for it.

I think you are gambling with your life if you don't wear one. I know of one to many horror stories of diabetics going into insulin reactions and cops thinking they were drunk/on drugs.

I wore one for like two days when I was diagnosed in 1990. I guess I'd be willing to wear one now, but after almost twenty years, I guess both vanity and complacency have set in...

I also wear a Road ID bracelet, but only when I'm out running or in the gym. I know I should wear it all the time, but jewelery of any kind bugs me to death. I don't even like to wear watches.
