Hyperglycemia will only cause muscle loss if it is accompanied by inadequate insulin. This is what happens to a T1 before insulin treatment is started. In spite of high blood glucose levels, the glucose is not used because of the lack of insulin. So the body starts breaking protein down to increase the supply of glucose. And muscles waste away.
As long as there is adequate insulin for cells to be able to access the glucose they need, high blood glucose will not cause muscle loss. If you are a T1, ensure that you don't run out of insulin. Especially during and after workouts.
