Urgent help needed

hy guys,
i dunno whats happ to my body.I use humulin 30/70 6 units for night and 6 morning , bcoz my morning and late night readings werent coming under control or not fast enough i increased my evening dose by 2 units but it scared **** out of me.I increased my dose tonight and all of sudden my reading after 1:30 mins increased even more.I also would like to mention i did 20 mins walk after dinner on both nights.

Generally my evening dose gives readings as follows:

LAST NIGHT:
8.3(148) -1:30 hrs after dinner,10.6(192)-2 hrs after dinner ,8.7(156)-2:30 hrs after dinner , 7.7(138)-2hrs 43 mins after dinner , 7.3(130)-2hrs 53mins after dinner.

TONIGHT:
But tonight i checked my reading 1:30 hrs after dinner it was 12.3(220) , Went to walk for 30 mins :2 hrs after dinner-8.7(156), 9.1(162)- 2:30 hrs after dinner

HOW CAN YOUR SUGAR READING RISE BY INCREASING DOSE???

Can please someone help me at this?

Regards
Charneet

Sounds like you should be taking a long lasting and a fast acting insulin. My endo has never suggested that I take the type you are on. Not certain how it works. I take Lantus and Humalog. The Humalog covers what I eat. I think your doctor has you on the wrong insulun if you are a Type 1.

Good luck!

Relax, the only real bad number is the 220, there's nothing wrong with your other numbers. Try a long acting like Lantus too.

70/30 is the WORST insulin on the market. A MUCH better plan is to use Lantus or Levemir as a long acting insulin (injected twice a day) and inject Humalog, Novolog, or Apidra with every meal and in between if you're too high. 70/30 is pretty much just a way to guess in the dark, and you'll never be able to achieve acceptable numbers. I didn't know they still put type 1s on that craop these days.

I agree... separate insulins give you much more flexibility in dosage plus timing, and potentially much better control.

Obesity and Type 2 are strongly associated. Most people assume that Obesity is the cause and Diabetes the effect. It is equally valid to suggest that the underlying metabolic disorder which leads to the Type 2 causes the Obesity.

The problem with mixes is that you cant use them for a correction if your numbers go really high. This is where a basal/bolus regimen really has its advantages. As for work, its possible to inject through clothes there by making the process very discreet.

To answer your original question: If you are taking the same amount of insulin every day, regardless of what you are eating, it is possible that your post meal reading would increase even if you took the same or slightly more insulin. What did you eat on the two days in question? Do you count the carbs when you are eating? Also with a mixed insulin, if the insulin had separated at all (i remember you're supposed to roll those between your hands before injecting... right?) you might have gotten a slightly off % of short to long acting insulin, which would make you go high after the meal.

And additional bit of unsolicited advice: A 70/30 mix seems more convenient at first glance (only 2 shots a day) but it really does not give you the flexibility and control that a separate long and short acting insulin does. It seems daunting at first to take a shot at lunchtime when you are at work, but really after you adjust to it becomes a routine. I might only spend 1 minute on diabetes at work, and it really helps me to stay in control and feeling good. Surely you can spare 1 minute. They must let you go to the bathroom, right?

Can you give us more information so we can better understand your issues? Are you a type 1? When were you diagnosed? What types of things are you eating? Are you carb counting?

You say nothing about what and how much you ate. Without that information, your question is meaningless.

I'd certainly have a better (lower) BG reading after a small amount of insulin with a zero carb meal than after a large (but not large enough) dose of insulin and a 100 gram of carb meal.
