| | | Whoo- Hoo! My recent A1c is ....... 4.9. I have been training intensely for a 50 mile race, (that I plan on winning) so I quess it has keep my numbers down. I know that averages out to an average BG of 80 ish, But I know I have been definitly higher 80 at times. I have had some pretty significant lows too, but I haven't lost it yet. I am gonna keep riding the razors edge with my BG's, keeping low enough to continue with good A1c's. It's working so far. Anyways I am stoked! |

Just watch those lows, the very best of luck with the race!

| | | That's a great A1c, but be careful about those lows. If they happen too frequently and too often, you do run the risk of losing awareness of them and I think that's toughest and scariest thing in my opinion as a long time type 1 diabetic. I don't have nearly the awareness I had when I was younger, I've been able to get some back with much tighter control and testing, but still it's a bit scary to know that in the past I've had lows where I just blinked out and the next thing I knew was unfamiliar faces peering down at me.
Good control is good, but you do have to keep that cautionary note in mind.

| | | It is good to get a low Hb1c and like you I have been happy to know that I had a normal BS level but reluctantly I'm begiining to feel that lows are perhaps a problem. My HbA1c 3 months ago was 4.9% and although I don't run as far as you I put it down to running. My meter also had averages at the 80 level. Like you I did have had some low lows, including one 'lo' on the meter whilst just shopping which made me aware that it was becoming potentially dangerous. Once I took glucose it was easily treated but at the time I wandered round and round the chemists completely disorientated looking for glucose even though there was some in my bag.
Since then, I've deliberately tried to increase my levels (had blood test today and meter shows a slight increase) but I have to say I've found it very difficult to do. It is hard to know what to do for the best because I know I will actually be disappointed with higher HbA1c . |

| | | wow, training definitely has it's benifits. I've been using "race" events (50mile mtbike rides, 110 mile road ride) as a training goal for about a year now and it's really improved my overall health and BG numbers. Just gotta find that next goal before I start slacking off.
What kind of race are you training for?? Purely running? XC running? or adventure race type? |

| | | it's fifty mile running race in sacramento, this one is mostly on a paved bike trail. But most of the ones I run are on trails. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
