Hi Martin,
Being newly diagnosed is very overwhelming and scary and a rollercoaster that you just want to get off. We know because we've all been there (some of us are still there), so I'm really glad you found this forum to help you with some advice, suggestions and support.

I would have to conclude having read all the information you supplied that you are are T1.
You did not bring this on yourself anymore than I did to myself. I didn't have any family history of diabetes either and then within two weeks of each other my six year old nephew and I were both diagnosed T1 - this disease does not discrimanate!
I would also like to add that Type 2 diabetics do not bring this disease on themselves either -granted some type 2 diabetics have weight and lifestyle issues - but there are a lot of fit and normal weight T2s that have diabetes because of thyroid or metabolic issues (and some that take insulin injections and use a pump as well).

I also think that you are in your 'honeymoon' phase and you should try to prolong this by taking good care of your body - controlling your BGLs, eating healthy, exercising, controlling alcohol intake and trying your best to quit smoking or at the very least cut down.

For peace of mind, I too would have ordered more blood tests for confirmation of original diagnosis, and if you're not happy with your current Dr / Endocrinoligist, 'shop around' until you find one that you are happy and comfortable with.
