Any Reason to Stop Taking Insulin?

My brother married to narcisstic,
abusive wife had type 1 diabetes. She had total control over every aspect of his life, including testing and giving him his insulin injections.
About a month ago, my brother was found dead lying beside his camper truck in the mountains. My nephews wife, who gets her information from my brother's wife said that my brother had been going off on his own for the last few months, and he told others that they were splitting up. I know that this would have created a volatile situation.
My nephews wife told me that he had been exercising and following a good diet and that his diabetes was non-existent, so much so that he did not have to take insulin. Then she told me that he had been depressed and walking around saying that he felt like he was going to die any minute and that he had been blacking out.
The poice detective told me that people up where he was, said he was acting really strange, first he told me that it was reported he was intoxicated, then he told me that no one saw him drinking. and that the person that he was with said he took off all of his clothes and passed out on the ground and this person woke up in the morning, covered him with a blanket and left, thinking he was sleeping.
There was no insulin, no food in the camper. I camped all my life with my brother and the first thing he did was start a big campfire because he was always cold due to his diabetes. They said that he died somewhere between 12 and 6 in the morning. It is cold and there is no light in the mountains. I can't believe he would not have started a campfire.
I was telling my customer who is a registered nurse about what my nephews wife said that he didn't need to take insulin anymore and she said, "no way !". She said that being insulin dependent that many years, the pancreas does not function. She said he could have been blacking out because of his blood sugar level.
She said and I agree that it is highly suspicious that just when his wife loses control over him, that she tells him he doesn't need to take insulin any more.
I have been reading about Narcissism and it said that sometimes when a partner is leaving, that a narcisstic will kill or have the partner killed. I can see her doing this, to keep him sick so he won't leave.
My question is this, is what my nurse friend said, accurate? Is there any reason a type 1 diabetic would be able to not use insulin anymore?
I am going to call the detective tomorrow with this information. They are doing an autopsy and waiting for toxicology report and I want to make sure they check for insulin...
