i thought that i had read somewhere that after a certain time after being opened lantus is not good anymore. can someone let me know if that is the case and how long an opened vial lasts,thanks |

According to the manufacturers, performance of Lantus starts detriorating 28 days after the seal on a vial has been broken. Some people find that this happens sooner - at about 23 days. I found that my control was OK for about 6 weeks. During week seven after opening the vial, my blood sugars went all over the place. I started a new vial and they settled down again.

| | | so then do you just keep track of the 28 days and then toss it?i thought i had heard of it not working after awhile ,when mine started going high for no reason i thought mine was expired,it was over 5 weeks opened. |

| same with me, I write the day the vial was opened on the box, but I start watching morning B/G readings at 28 days and when readings go up, bottle goes in trash
