Christie,

According to the manufacturers, performance of Lantus starts detriorating 28 days after the seal on a vial has been broken. Some people find that this happens sooner - at about 23 days. I found that my control was OK for about 6 weeks. During week seven after opening the vial, my blood sugars went all over the place. I started a new vial and they settled down again.

Cheers,

Mark

After it's been open/used for about 30 days my sugars start going screwy. My endo said 28 days.

I keep my insulin vials in their boxes. I just make a note on the box what date I opened it and so I know when it's time to open a fresh vial.

same with me, I write the day the vial was opened on the box, but I start watching morning B/G readings at 28 days and when readings go up, bottle goes in trash

I used to do that, but then I got lazy, and now I just replace the vial each month.
