      Thumbs up Leftover...

So, I was glancing at a novolog flexpen that (it said) was empty, and noticed that there was still some insulin in there, although the pan would not let me dial up anymore.

So I grabbed a syringe and yanked out the rest... 15 units!!!

That means that for every box of flexpens, SEVENTY-FIVE units of novolog goes straight in the trash! Not for this frugal flyer, sorry Novo Nordisk.

So anyway, I've started pulling ALL of the insulin out of my pens. I get almost another day worth of insulin this way. Pretty cool, but kinda stupid that the companies are pulling this. Oh well, at least I found a way around it lol

That really is a lot of wasted insulin. WOW

      Thanks for the heads up.

Reminds me of my insulin pump reservoir. When the pump shows there are 0 units left, there are really another 10-15 or so left. Unlike your pen, the pump will keep running even after it says zero.

I seriously need to start a fund for a pump.

Maybe I'll start here... anyone wanna contribute?

Yeah that's a waste of insulin. I get to refill a cartridge buy getting a clean hypodermic needle to screw on the cartridge to be filed and get a old pen and push the rubber plunger on the wasted old cartridges.

      I hate waste.

all pens have this issue... the rubber plunger won't go any further because it's flat on the inside and the leftover insulin is in the section that thins out... i used to remove my insulin from there, but since i inject anywhere from 5 to 8 times a day depending on my levels... adding another injection on some days it a bit much for me, since i get most of my meds for free (government plan in quebec - handicapped status)...
