puberty, periods, low blood sugars

my step daughter has now had four episodes where her blood sugar levels were high for a few weeks then it goes low without explanation. it seems to coincide with her irregular periods. doctors think she may be overinjecting herself, but the last two times we have had her insulin. today for instance she had a hypo this morning and no insulin since.
Depsite having no insulin and lots of food her blood sugar levels aren't going up the way they should of done. if it follows the last time she ends up in hospital on a drip.

has anyone had any experience of this?

thanks
mike

has she been recently diagnosed as a diabetic and is she type 1 or type 2, usually insulin injections means type 1 but you never know...

if she's new to this, it could be a "honeymoon" period when her pancreas is still producing insulin to some degree, but if she's not new to this, then she needs to get her hormone levels checked... taking "the pill" would be a good idea as well, since it regulates menstruation...

i was diagnosed when i was 15 and i tend to go up during that time of the month, but never extremely high... perhaps she needs to stay in the hospital for a week or so to get regulated in her dosing... a complete medical workup would be a good idea too... but i don't know about your financial situation or where you are so this is just ideas i'm giving here...

perhaps someone else can help more...

I was diagnosed when i was 13. I dont remember ever having problems with fluctuations in sugar levels with periods.. and still dont but im on the pill now. Hormones have a lot to do with sugar levels, as does stress. A year or two after my diagnosis i was put on Thyroid medication which had a lot to do with irregular hormone levels; i have Hypothyroidism.

Periods do play a major part in blood sugar levels. But not to that amount.
It's just a surgestion but if she is going hypo like that and still low after eating with no insulin. I would ask her Dr to test her cortisol levels.
I used to hypo and end up eating 500 carbs with no insulin and still be low.
Tests came back positive for addison's disease.
