I pay $90 a month for family coverage through United Health Care

I have a $200 individual deductible, $500 family max deductible. It is then 80/20 for 500 individual, or $800 family max out of pocket. Once that is met, everything (including co-pay) is covered at 100%. So I pay $2,380 per year out of pocket.
My co-pays also go toward my max out of pocket as well.

My husband is a 22-year State Employee. We were previously with Blue Cross until the State switched providers 4 years ago to United Healthcare. We have a family plan........my husband, myself, and a daughter that will come off it on Dec. 31st. Our son has his own health insurance coverage.

Up until July of this year, we paid NOTHING for our coverage. With the new State contract through his union, every state worker is now required to pay a percentage of their pay towards their health care plan. In our case, it averages $75.00-$85.00 every two (2) weeks. There are no yearly deductables to meet and our co-pays for doctor visits are $10.00 with prescriptions running at either ZERO (my insulin), $5.00 or $12.00. This is nothing compared to what other people in the USA are paying, or those who don't have any coverage at all. We are truly fortunate.

That's about what I pay per month for my HALF of the coverage I get through my job. My job pays an equal amount. Actually, since we just changed our plan a bit when we renewed in August it's a little less. Around $400/month total and I pay half, job pays half.

My work use to be they pay 100% and we just pay copays and such. Now, they changed and started an uproar due to going to an $1100 single, $2200 family, deductible plan. We pay that amount and then everything is covered 100%. My employer also reimburses us back for 50% of the deductible, so in reality we only have to pay half of those above numbers per year.

Hope your work starts charging you soon. The only reason I say that is at my work a huge uproar happened because we went from nothing, to deductible. My answer for that is the employer spoiled us for so long with no costs and now that we get hit with a large amount people complain. If it would have been phased in, people wouldn't be able to complain as much. And if anyone thinks an employer should eat 15-20% increases in health insurance each year, they should be happy their employer even offers it.

I was paying with each paycheck, but my employer decided that because the deductible is so high $2700 with HealthPartners that they would pay monthly and I am just responsible for the deductible.

I don't exactly share that hope with you! LOL. But I understand where you are coming from. I'm gonna take it as a blessing for now and if it changes, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

My work actually pays up to a certain amount. If an individual goes over that amount, they pay the difference. Also the employee pays for a spouse and/or dependents.

We pay a fortune. My husband 's company is self funded. We pay over $730.00 per month for two people for United Healthcare. We pay all of our medical expenses up to $3,000.00 and then we are covered at 100%. We use an HSA plan that is pre-funded by the company every year and the money rolls over from year to year if we don't use it. This plan is less expensive than the ones we had in years past. We figured that we paid about $15,000.00+ each year for insurance and medical expenses in the past. Now it is under $12,000.00 every year.

Just wondering... if your deductible is 3K and then covered 100%, why are you paying 12K per year?.. I'm about to go on an HSA plan.. is there something I"m missing? I don't want to screw myself by not understanding it..

My share of the premium is taken out of my check each week. We take the cost of the monthly premium, multiply that by 12, divide by 52 and then divide that in half. That's the amount deducted each week.

We have no deductibles or co-insurance to worry about (actually, I think there's a $50 deductible per year for brand name drugs if you don't use the mail order pharmacy) but I do have co-pays. $25 for each doctor or specialist visit. $10 generic drugs and $35 brand name; $70 if it's not on the formulary! There's an ER co-pay (either $75 or $100, I forget) as well as a hospital admission co-pay ($200, maybe). I plan on not needing to go to the ER or hospital! We can get 90 days of prescription medication at a time for 2 co-pays if we use the mail order pharmacy, which I do.

Pump supplies are covered 100%, no co-pay. Insulin counts as a generic drug so that's only a $10 co-pay, not $35.

Every year at renewal time our health insurance premium goes up. It's been especially brutal for the last 3 years or so. Each year we look for ways to lower the monthly premium by increasing co-pays. It sucks, but for me it's still well worth it.

I think she is saying she also is paying the premium for the plan as well. So she's paying premiums and deductibles which can be very expensive. But if you have the option to take it, in my opinion, you take it.
