I was diagnosed just before my 10th birthday. My mom told me after my birthday, though. Back then, yeah...I suffered from the no soda, juice, cake, candy, etc. Until I was 11 or 12, and my mom started letting me inject my own insulin. I think I went about 2 years skipping that. No one could figure out why I wasn't getting better on such high doses of insulin. Eventually they made my mom start giving me my shots again. I think I was like 14 or 15 then. I am terrified about what those years have done to me. I still haven't reached my goal A1C...since I've been diagnosed in 1989. So, yeah...I can relate.

Talking Update

I just wanted to thank everyone! I made a big deal out of nothing. I attended the party and had a decent time. There were pies and such, but I had no desire to eat any of it. I didn't bring any of my favorites, so I wasn't tempted to have any of that either. I had 1 can of diet coke and a small plate of chicken salad. LOL I prayed before I went and I believe God took the taste away! It didn't even bother me to see everyone else eating and drinking!! On the upside, my blood sugar was wonderful at bedtime and when I woke up the next day!!!

Publix has an awesome sugar free cheese cake.
You'll be lucky if you get to eat a slice.
You really can't tell the difference.

You're going to learn the meaning of self-control.
There's really no choice.

And it will become a habit and you won't notice what you're passing up.

Hi
How old is your Dr!! I was told this information 26 years ago So much has changed since then. The insulins carb counting etc. Sure you need to eat healthy but this does not mean giving up everthing
If your Dr used the words you are not normal now he indead needs to be taken to task over it big time(I'm being polite )
I as others have sugested finding a new Dr who is up to date
with diabetes.

I am so NOT structured and this is causing a serious damper on my day-to-day activities. That is my frustration and why this whole thing has me so upset. I guess, though, that my way hasn't been working so well...as my A1C results show.
You control your Diabetes IT DOES NOT CONTROL YOU , It takes time to work out what works best for you.
Being upset and missing out on being with friends causes you to be stressed and this also leads to higher Blood sugar levels.
I'm pleased you went to your friends. You did well with the salad.
