Spikes over 400

I have been really eating good and the doctor upped my insulin doses.... I still can't get my levels down.... is there anything you guys can think of to why this would be happening. I'm really doing good with my eating, so I can't understand it. It's getting really frustrating. I see my doctor every 3 months and it seems we have to increase my insulin every time.

Most of us manage our own doseages. I don't know if you are ready or not. You might want to discuss it with your doctor first.

For MDI the basic plan is to adjust basals until fasting is lw, then adjust boluses until meals work. It's not just quantity though. Timing, carb quantity, carb quality, fat/protein content, and carb timing all impact our numbers.

I have a chart from my doctor on how much to take based on my BG levels. I'm just thinking it needs increased again... gosh, what a pain in the rear. I also have a carb counting list from her for each meal and I try really hard to follow it. I have a book for carb counting, but sometimes, it's hard to follow. I need to get these levels down as I know it's not good.... sad thing, something I go very low in the am.

400 is a real worry. It seems strange and unusual that if you are trying, that your doctor can't give you dosages that at keep you well below this, even if still unstable. Xmenace explained the process in a nutshell really and that's where your work lies.

Also, I suppose my thought is that if there is anything you are doing that you shouldn't (regularly eating too much for example) you need to come clean with yourself and face it and work out how to deal with it, even if it means accepting it but learning how to bolus properly for it, while you work on reducing it. When it comes to many things, a diabetic simply cannot afford to delude themselves, play down, or hide things from themselves/their team in the way other people might get away with and continue to enjoy relative health.

Do you go low in the AM before testing? Your Lantus will not cause this, but your bedtime snack might...... Also, with your daily carbs, are you counting the sugar contents with the carb contents? That could be giving you highs without realizing the cause.
