| | | how much lantus do U take Went to the doctor the other day and she said im taking about half the amount of lantis I need. Im on 23 units now and she said when its all said and done I should be on about 40 units. She told me to keep upping it until I see 200's fasting... we are coming down slowly. I know 200 is still way too high but I feel allot better now that im coming down... just curious how much lantis is everyone taking? How many units total? |

| | | First of all, just because one person is taking more or less than another doesn't mean there's something "wrong" with anyone. It's just what your body needs.
I'm currently making adjustments, but I'm around 18u/day split into two doses.

| | | I am currently taking 18 units before supper. It is not enough. I need to take more. My fasting bs still won't go below 140. I am not willing to take more due to the weight gain I experience. I was on 50 units, and I had beautiful blood sugars and a fifteen pound gain. Reduced the intake, and the weight came off. |

| | | I am on 7u once a day (before bed). I run a little low during the day and have to have a small snack, but my night time numbers are near perfect. So I am willing to live with the daytime small snack requirement. |

| | | I take 30 units every night at 9 o'clock. When I first started taking Lantus I was taking 20 units. Don't be suprised if they have to lower or raise it a couple of times before they get it right. Good luck!

| Exactly!!

| | | I currently take 18 units of lantus at 10:30pm. Your basal dosage should be (approximately) based on body weight, and doctors generally use the following formula to figure a starting dose, then adjust from there. it is as follows:
Take your weight in kilograms (pounds divided by 2.2)--I weigh 140 = 63.6. Divide that in half = 31.8, your TOTAL daily insulin dose. 60% of that should be given as basal, the remainder (depending, of course, on food consumption) will be bolus. 60% of 31.8 = 19. My dose is 18, a bit less than indicated--this makes perfect sense to me, because I am extremely muscular, and muscle is more sensitive to insulin, fat less so. When I was 5 lbs less (but 2% more muscle mass), I was taking only 16 units of Lantus.

| | I generally take about 20 units in the morning of Lantus. However...I take a basal rate of my pump of about .3/hr. It works out to a total basal insulin of 28 units. I agree with what you all said...you have to do what works for you. Sometimes it's difficult figuring that out, but if you keep working at it, you'll get it | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
