ok, stupid question...

Hi again

Eri had been doing actually pretty good w/ her sugars lately...such as waking up with them in normal range...90 was yesterdays ...anyway, we have this HUGE cuban laurel tree on our front yard, and swings, of COURSE...and all the neighborhood kids play. Well, Eri went to get on the one, was really going quite high, and the rope snapped(the boys like to flip the swings over the branches...and I JUST checked the ropes and they appeared to be fine)...Anyway, the swing broke while she was up and she landed hard on her back on top of one of the many huge roots(this tree is OLD...actually a landmark). She obviously knocked the wind out of herself, and can't stand straight...but she regained her breath, etc.
My question, now bear w/ me, this is a stupid question, could a fall like that increase her bg reading? She has been eating perfectly lately....chicken and green beans w/ a tiny piece of bread last night w/ one of those new 7ups...and her BG this morning was 360. Last night it was 158, so I can't imagine why it went up so high.
She will be going to the pediatrician later today.
Just was wondering if a fall like that could cause higher readings?

Sorry I rambled.
Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin,

Is Eri still in pain? She probably has a nice bruise too. I would think it would increase her bg if she is hurting (stress). It sounds like a painful fall.

I hope she is feeling better. I am glad to hear her bgs have been good prior to her fall and hope they go back to being good soon!

Nancy

Yeah, I would definately think that that could increase her bg. Tough fall. Poor girl.

OK, kids are SOOO resiliant...her back is still sore, a bruise, but when she got home, her BG was 135...not bad for her at all.
If I had a fall like that, I'd still be in pain...
We have those lidoderm patches for my husbands foot(the burn, since it's healed, but he has pain when on it)...and we used one on her back...didn't even touch the pain. Is that weird or what? Those things numb you!!!

I guess you were both right, with quick and intense pain like that, it had to stress her and raise her BG.

I'm a numbskull lately...lol...this move has my mind all over the place!!!
