So what do you think about having a new outbreak of poison oak and a blood sugar of 428? Think there is a corelation?
I also wonder about my tubing in the shower. Is it hot enough to cook the insulin and cause some otherwise unexplained highs?

poison oak, huh. Don't know for sure but it probably has something to do with the high bsl
If the inserts that come with the insulin are to be believed, yes you are definitely cooking your insulin ---unless you are taking cold showers. I always unhook at the infusion set.

I fell into some poison ivy back in 1987 and the pharmacist gave me a steroid to take for it. After taking the first one, my blood sugar shot up very high. I didn't realize until later that the steroid was causing the problem. It took about 5 days after I stopped taking the drug for my blood sugar to come back down into the normal range. Are you taking a steroid to treat the poison oak? If so, I feel sure it is a major part of the problem. I understand it makes insulin less effective.

Like LG said, if you're treating it w/ steroids then that's what's going on. If not, it is an allergic reaction, which would affect your immune system thus resulting in higher than normal b/s. I'd look at the steriod issue first though.

Hey- Thanks for the input- I will start unhooking before i shower. It only makes sense, I just get in a place where I don't want to think about it. Maybe I need a cold shower once in awhile to wake me up.

Hi - I thought it might act like a wound or infection does, reving up the inflammatory responce and causing high b/s from that. It seems like there is always something more to learn no matter how long I've had it. Thanks for your input. kate
