Hi! I'm from Malaysia and my father had mild diabetes. I am not sure if it's type I or type II but seems like our family has the genes.

Hi Air,

So I guess you have not been dx'd as yet, but your out learning what you can since your father had it. That's really good, but it would help if you knew which one he had. Type 1's generally are under weight and type 2's are over weight. Some type 1's may have been overer weight and worn out their pancreas in which case they would have a sudden unexplained weight lose even while eating the same or more. Since you say he had it that may be the best indication you get as to which he had. With our current knowledge of this desease probably the best you can do now is avoid excessive weight and do whatever you can to stay healthy to avoid infections and the flu. Good Luck.

You can also tell a lot of the time by how old you are when you get it. Generally if you become diabetic before you are 30, it will be type 1. 40 or later is usually type 2. This isn't always true, but most of the time it is!
