Endo has Flown the coop!

OK, raise your hand if this has happened to you....

Went to my "pump checkup" appt today with my CDE/Pump specialist. After discussing many subjects and going over my progress on the pump, she says: "So, which Endo are you going to see now?" Yep, you guessed it. My endo took a better offer on the east coast on short notice and no one informed me he left. I have an appointment with him for a checkup next week! I guess they would have told me when I went to check in.

So, I will start the hunt for a new one. I am seeing the new Endo my CDE recommended to get the process started.... who knows, maybe I will like this new one. I liked the old endo too... I thought he was cool.

I can't blame him either... it was a promotion and he was moving back to his home town. OK, rant over, nothing any of you can do about it. Just thought it was kinda funny.... Poof, gone, just like the chat room!

This has happened to me 2 or 3 times with different doctors. It's always the ones I really like that leave! I started going to a new endo last month. He was nice but very businesslike. I prefer a doctor who is warm and friendly and has a sense of humor. I just relate better to that kind of person. To me, this is just as important as their medical expertise. Anyway, I go back to him next Friday, so we'll see what happens. There are not a lot of endos in this area, so my choices are limited.

Good luck with your new endo!

Sparkle

Haven't ever been to an Endo.

REASONS:

1. $250.00 U.S. per hour

2. the ones in this area are all ^%&^$%^$ and worse. Royal Pains in the posterior.

3. My PCP and CDE have kept me and my A1c well within the proper parameters.

4. $250.00 U.S. per hour

5. $250.00 U.S. per hour

I had the same thing happen two times last year w/ my GP. The newer replacement is very good though, so for now I'm sticking w/the same practice.

Oh boy. Happy to live in Canada. All health services are paid by the government here. I wish you could have this service paid soon

LOL Koblenz...(POOF!) Something similar happened to me, only, my endo didn't fly the coop, she kicked me out of her coop! (She dropped half of her patient load when she went on a year long break) LOL That's ok, I was able to find one I like better anyhow. Only thing is, he's 45 minutes away...Oh well, Can't win 'em all

I agree with you Mario. It would be good if the US could adopt a plan that would benefit everyone.
Unfortunately, it would be a looooong way out, and I fear that one too many politicians would hinder it before it reaches the people. But, that's another topic...

Razr,
250.00 American? That's a steel. If I didn't have insurance my regular check-up would cost at least 375.00 and that doesn't include the lab work.

Endo

Ok this is sort of OT but somewhat on the same lines, I see a husband and wife team for two separate disease, both charge $70 per visit, which I just pay my $15 copay for each.

The one I see for my lupus does 1 blood test on me that costs $499 according to the hospital fees charged to my insurance. When I get all the blood work done for him, usually twice a year, it comes to about $750. I was just glad to have my insurance.

My insurance plan pays a contracted rate with all of my healthcare providers, regardless of the billed amount. It is a PPO plan that allows me to use any doctor without referrals, the cost of which to me is 20% of the contracted rate. Since 20% can be a substantial amount in the healthcare business, I use a secondary insurance to cover it.

My first endo visit was billed at $200 for the office portion of the visit, insurance paid $170. Follow-up visits have ranged for $65 to $115, with the insurance contracted rate being about 80% of the total. With the two insurances I only pay deductibles (capped at $900 per year per family).

If I were to choose the HMO plan, I would only be responsible for the copay, $12 per visit, and would not require the secondary insurance. But all visits to any doctor except my PCP would have to be on a referral basis. Any visit while out of town to any healthcare provider would have to be approved in advance or within 24 hours of an ER discharge.

Some people only need an Endo with a pulse to write out the prescriptions they need.

Other people need a teacher to help them with every diabetic event in their life... those people are stuck with the Endos with a pulse.
