Unhappy Stomach Issues

I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been diabetic for about 9 years. I have strugggled for a long time with my glucose levels and my h1c is now at 10.5. I am a very fragile diabetic is what my dr calls me and the littlest things affect me. Within the past year I have noticed a lot of stomach problems. Within minutes after eating I am very uncomfortable and in pain. I spend the next several hours in and out of the restroom. Has anyone experienced this? What were some options that helped the situation? Im looking for some support here im 27 years old and if I dont change my ways this disease is going to defeat me. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi jenyki25, welcome to the forums! About those stomach issues, I'm not familiar with the problem as related to diabetes, but I wanted to pass one one idea to look at: Gastroparesis

As for the rest of it, I recommend you read a lot of the threads, go into more detail about what you do to manage your diabetes, (you can be as broad or specific as you like) and what difficulties you have controlling your BG. Spend some time on it, you'll find much information, leads to information, answers, feedback here, but you need to be doing some grunt work yourself - get reading, and posting. I bet that there are better, practical answers out there for trips and tactics you can use to do better than an a1c of 10, even if you are a case of brittle or harder to control diabetes.

Welcome

It's really important to talk to your doc about it. Many stomach issues related to type 1 can be reversed when you get BG under control. You have to get a diagnosis first...

If you don't feel that your doc is giving you CLEAR guidance as to how to control BG, find another doc. In reality, your doc should not be making excuses about Brittle Diabetes. I'm not saying brittle diabetes doesn't exist, I'm just saying that if your doctor is any good, she/he'll be able to give you very specific and easy to understand strategies about dealing with brittle diabetes.

"Brittle" just requires different strategies.

Things can be WAY better for you. Make a committment to yourself that within 3 months, you will be IN CONTROL and FEELING GREAT. Then do whatever it takes to make the changes you have to make.

Another possibility is celiac disease. They can do blood tests for it (but don't change anything before getting tested).

I agree, get checked for celiac disease. It's not uncommon in diabetics.

05/2009: 6.2%

Time passes (???)
12/2007: 6.3%
08/2007: 6.7%
I don't remember before this but my A1C's were in the 5.7% area before I went to college...

These numbers should improve as I'm no longer trapped by the outrageous school/work schedules of college and will be starting a job with fantastic working conditions soon!

After 20 or so years I had the same thing. I would take 1 bite and feel absolutely stuffed and in pain, miserable feeling! I think they diagnosed gastroparesis or something and was put on omeprazole. Took it for a few years on and off but now I don't take anything anymore. very occasionally it will flair up but not for very long.
