As far as I'm aware you can buy insulin over the counter in some SE Asian countries, such as Thailand. Otherwise it's probably worth your doctor writing you a script for your usual order and then seeing a doctor wherever to ask for them to write you a prescription for the local market. You'll have to pay for medicines abroad though.

I'd suggest you take as much as possible for your first two months in Asia (if storage isn't a problem) and then renew your prescriptions in Australia, I'd imagine it will be easier to do that in Oz.

Can you call the pharmacies in the areas where you will be and ask them? I wish I could be of more help, but it sounds like that may be the only way to know for sure.

I'd be fairly sure that Bangkok, Manila and Kuala Lumpur will have the medication you need but if you're going to be out in the sticks or somewhere like Laos or Vietnam, I'd err on the side of caution.

World Traveler

Hello, I have traveled all over the world the 2 best points I can advise are,
1: Check with your insurance company or provider they will be able to help.

2: If that is not an option, take the following tips, Go to your Doctor explain your plans and needs for medicines, get several original scripts for all needed medicine. Talk with a trusted friend or family member that will fill them as needed, contact your Govt. and see if they have Embassy’s in the cities where you are traveling and if they will accept a medical package for you and hold it until your pickup, if they won't most major hotels will take packages for you if you have reservations planned. Go to Fedex get several proper boxes for you meds. preaddress them give them to your trusted friend and ask to send them on a prearranged date with tracking. Also photo copy all of your important papers, Passport, a photo of yourself, all credit cards fron and back or money cards, travelers checks, etc. Keep a copy of the paper work in your luggage and a set with trusted friend, that way if lost or stolen you are sure to have Identification close by.
BEWARE OF MEXICO TRUST NO ONE THERE.
