| | | Doctor changed my regiment up last week. And I believe he has just about got me dialed in.
I have posted here several times that I was diagnosed as not only Type 1, but also as a "brittle" diabetic.
I have gone through several doctors, and the one I have now told me that he does not believe in "brittle" diabetes, and if I gave him a chance, he would prove that I am not one.
He said it would take some time, but he would get me dialed in and show that I can have consistent sugar levels.
Last week, he told me to go to 8 units of Lantus when I go to bed, and 10 when I wake up.
I do carb counting on my Novalog, and he put me a 10 units per carb.
In the past week my highest reading was 319, and that was mu fault completely. I did not count my carbs right at all on that particular meal. That was on Saturday.
Since then, my readings have all been in the 100-170 range.
Before this change, I was in the 200-400's consistently, and stayed frustrated because I didn't think anything was working.
I gave him a chance, did it his way, and though it is still very early in the process, feel that he is indeed on to something, and getting me dialed in!

| | | BTW, I know I still have some work to do.
Here is my 7 day average since the change. A1c 7.5 %
Average Blood Glucose in mg/dl 169 mg/dl
Average Blood Glucose in mmol/L 9.4 mmol/L
Like I said, still have some work to do, but I'm getting there!

| | | Yes you are (as in, getting dialed in)! Glad you found the new doc . . . hope he works out like you wish.

| | | Yay, Luke! Heading in the right direction ...
And, isn't it good to feel like you have the support you need? Instead of the blame you didn't deserve?

| | | The hardest part for me was actually before I was diagnosed.
I was staying sick, had no energy, you know, all of the normal symptoms, and I recieved a lot of verbal abuse.
I was called lazy, good for nothing, told I didn't want to work, etc. I tried explaining to people something was wrong, but on one wanted to listen.
Now my biggest problem is people wanting to compare me to other diabetics. I have to explain to them we are not all the same. We have different regiments, we have to do different things.

| | | I think it's great that the doctor is so willing to help you. Is it a primary care doctor or an endo? I'm glad that things are working out better for you.

| | | Glad to hear things are working out for you, Luke, with your new doctor.
Everything takes time and PATIENCE! After almost 4 years of pumping, my endo still does some "tweaking" every now and then.

I think everyone has "brittle" diabetes, it seems to be an excuse for people who aren't in control and can't seem to work out how to get there. Sorry to be harsh but really it's all bs.
Taking control of your own diabetes is probably the easiest part of this disease, once you have done it you will feel so much better. Coming to terms with this disease and being ready to tackle it is far harder.
Once in control you will face a constant battle to remain in control. Staying in control is a huge physiological challenge and requires determination. Sorry to be negative once again it's not all bad, there are positives aspects to this disease. It's really what you make of it, living a healthy life style and having a drive will get you a long way in life.
Hope your knew doctor works out. |

| | | I'm so happy for you that you found an endo that works for you! I went through 3 and would avoid going unless I needed prescriptions. I recently found a new doc when they mistakenly set up and appointment with the wrong doctor, and I LOVE her! I am doing more work and am more motivated than I have ever been. Three cheers for good endos with people skills!

Insulin really ain't all that evil, but it is an evil monster to have dictate my food/activity. Oh, well - I can live with it. At least I have lived with it for my entire married life thus far. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
