      Unhappy frustration!!

I get so frustrated that when I have any stress it makes my blood sugars go nuts and it seems like everything I do doesn't help. I've been taking extra insulin and doing things to de-stress but now I have ketones in my urine thanks to my blood sugars running high. I'm trying to get through to my dr. but no luck yet and I'm at a loss of what else I can do other then having to go to the hospital for an iv to help get rid of the ketones.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? And am I alone in feeling this frustration?

if you have high sugars and ketones, you should really be in the hospital. Esp. if you start vomiting.

Keep a very close eye on your situation.

And you would be far better off, if you can afford, getting an Xceed Optium blood meter, they do strips for that meter that test for ketones in the blood, which is far more reliable and up to date than a urine test. The urine test will only tell you what has been (with a few hours?) but the blood test will tell you what is doing on at present.

Often a person with type 1 feels very hi levels of stress. With the stress the sugars go out of control and then you feel those ill effects along with the stresses.
Best way to handle? Not an easy answer, at least not for everyone. For me the first thing is to get the immediate problem under control. Often when we see our bg's run out of control and you correctly up the dosage on the insulin regimen it seems it is not working. But insulin always does work. Sooner or later it will bring bg's down. The stressers in your life are causing problems, like the releases of hormones that counter insulin, but remember insulin is a strong hormone and it will work. Just not as well as you may have seen before.
You should find out if there is anything else sending your bg's high. A likely source is any illness or injury. That can quietly raise those blood sugar as well.

I agree with It Ain't Over.
One thing to do before you run off for emergency care is to take a few days to limit the amount of food / carbs you eat, while you take insulin, PLUS, drink more water than you can imagine. Water & kidneys have a function - clean stuff out of the blood. The blood gathers the stuff from all over the body. Water somehow is used in the kidney with the blood and does clean stuff from the body. Also realize that all food turns to useable energy for the body to use - that is, all food is processed to glucose so the cells of the body can use the energy. The cells of the body do not eat carbs, nor fats - the cells of the body eat one boring meal all day long - glucose. The only way they can eat glucose is by using insulin. Be careful what you eat, drink TONS of water - at least that is my experience.

Yes, test as often as possible, correct with insulin, limit carbs, and keep hydrated! Oh, and make the stress go away!

Test, test, test, eat as little carbs as possible, inject insulin to bring your high levels down, just be careful so you don't inject too much or too often. Drink a lot of water to keep hydrated and help your body flush those ketones out! And try to relax!
If you start feeling sick, go to hospital.
