| | | 24 hr urine collection - I pee 3L++ and you? Seriously, I'm concerned that I pee too much. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and my dr asked me to collect all my urine for 24 hrs. They gave me a 3L container and I filled it to the 3L mark and beyond to the rim. I couldn't even keep the last sample at the exact 24 hr mark because I couldn't fit another drop in the container.
Anyone else ever do this test? How much did you collect? I don't even know if there is such a thing as peeing too much. I don't think I drank an excessive amount of liquids and I'm not sure if being pregnant has anything to do with it. I see my dr next week and will go over test results and ask these questions. In the meantime, what do you think?

| | I'm sure I go more than that...When I was first diagnosed back in 1990, they had me measuring my output, and I was getting bored with it. So, I decided to hold it as long as I possibly could...By the time I went, I was sooooo hurting it wasn't funny, and I topped off at a little less than 1200mL or 1.2 liters. Wow.
Karen, are you sure you're not supposed to measure what you outputted and then dump the output down the toilet?

| | | no, I have done these tests before, it's called a 24 hour urine test, you basically start collecting your urine AFTER the first urination in the morning, and go and collect until the next mornings first urination. this way they can test who kind of substances your passing through out the day.....
and yes to answer the original question, I have filled one before 24 hours, but that was when I was out of control, now that I have better control i never fill one completely...

| | | I have done many 24 hr urine tests and I have to have two jugs to contain all my output.
Once I was in the hospital and they where doing a 24 hr. I had to go for a ultasound of my kidneys, and when I got up there I had to go but didn't want to until I got back to my room so they would not have to wheel me and my urine though the hospital.
The tech asked me if I needed to go and I told her I was fine. After the test was done and I returned to my room I went, no big deal, right.
Wrong, they came into my room and told me the next time I went to let them know. When I did they came in and cathetered me to make sure I was emptying my bladder. Not fun, I told them I was fine and my reasoning but they would not listen. |

| | | The normal 24 hr output for an adult is 600-2000 ml. The factor affecting urine output is how much water or liquids you intake.

| | | I have filled two of the jugs during the 24-hour test, but I drink lots of water during the day. I decided to not drink any extra water during the most recent test and still came very close to filling one. Now back in the days when I was a taste tester for the brewery . . .
