A sudden change in my blood sugar readings

Could it be the end of the honey moon period? I don't really understand much about that to be honest. Also I feel like I've had diabetes too long for it to do that.

Anyway... this is whats happening....

just last month I used to take 8 shots of levemir each evening (same kinda insulin as lantus). And I would take 4 or 5 shots of novo rapid with each meal. Which my doctor said wasn't alot of isulin, but it was all I needed and my bg was great.

Since then my bg seemed to often be a little higher than normal during the day and in the morning, so I put my levemir shot up by 2 units. Trouble is i've done this a few times and now i'm up to 16 units of levemir, which is obviously twice as much. I have no problem with that except it hasn't helped because my bg is almost constantly runing too high.

This morning it was 9 (162) which isn't dreadful, but this evening it's 16 (288)
which makes me feel like utter poop. I'm eating the same things as normal but having a higher bg all the time. I've taken some novo rapid to bring down my high blood sugar for now because soon I need to eat anyway, i'll probbaly be high all night tho... which is giving me bad headaches and I feel like I haven't slept even when I have

Does anyone think this faily sudden change in bg is the honey moon thingy? Or is it just the joys of diabetes?

I've been diabetic for almost 2 years incase thats relative to the honey moon thingy

I'm not an expert by any means, but I can offer you my opinion. My guess is that it is not the end of the honeymoon period . Honeymoon periods don't usually last that long...though I'm sure it's not impossible .

A few questions ... how long have you been on this vial of Levimir? Is it possible that it has spoiled somehow? If this a new type of insulin you started using or is it one you have been using for awhile. Have you gained weight or changed your diet in any way ? Are you less active or have you exercised less recently? Aside from feeling sick from high sugars, how do you feel generally? These things all can impact your blood sugar and may have had a role in the increase in your insulin doses .

Have you talked to your endo at all about this? He or she may have some insight on what's going on and also may be able to clear things up for you.

I know that I haven't given you any answers...I just hope I have brought up good questions for you to ask yourself and take into consideration. I hope you sort things out!

Hey there...
I know how frustrating this can be, just when you have everything down right, the Blood Sugars get so good decide to change (LOL) . I don't know how hot it is where you are, but I know that when it gets real hot where I am, my BS act real weird for NO reason.
Are you able to talk to your doctor?
I hope you were talking about units.. "just last month I used to take 8 shots of levemir". The point AM1977 made about your insulin going flat is a good one and you might want to check that out too. Diabetes is WONDERFUL!-----NOT! and everyday our metabolism changes causing the want for change and thats what causes our frustrations... Please keep us posted on your levels and what you were able to find out. Good luck!

Laura, I've been there, too. In fact, for some senseless reason my bsl decides to do this fairly often.
