      Biting my tongue

Im in a low carb forum, for recipes etc. I posted about having a hypo and someone pm'd me about how i can fix this with diet, why did have a hypo etc, why did i treat it. I messaged back simply that im a type 1 and that i low carb for weight control and that i cannot treat my diabetes with diet alone. They messagec back that they have a cousin with type 1, oh ok so ur an expert on it eh?, and how much fat i should be eating, that i should adjust my meds etc. Its almost impossible for me to just ignore this, there is sooooo much i want to say, in all caps no less!! give it go , bro, get it off your chest.(caps or not) I'm sure it is very frustrating for many T1s when the general population doesn't understand the differences in T1 & 2.

came off Metformin 500mg on 05/11/2010 to control with diet & exercise.
Previously 50 to 100 carbs now I try to limit it to under 50 per day.

Welcome to my life. And I don't even go to low carb sites, just D sites, and I still get low carb proselytizing from people who often barely seem to understand the difference between T1 and T2. I've been told I am "making excuses" to "go on being diabetic". Cause that is how T1 works, once you stop "making excuses" to "eat ****" and "not exercise hard enough", it goes away!

WOW! I had no idea Type 1 diabetics were verbally puked on like that. I'm sorry this happened. My only empathy would be that people from our church bring me things to eat when we have a pot-luck and I don't eat them because I can't tolerate them. They just look at me like I'm stupid, and tell me that they looked it up and it is fine for me to eat. UGH!

What do you mean you can't cure type 1 by low carbing?!!!? Don't you know if you just follow it right you can not only cure type 1, but stay free of car accidents AND bring world piece? Sheesh, some people just won't try.

I think you'll find that PM messages about your control and how it should be managed...want to avoid others comments about how far "off the mark" those suggestions probably are.

I've only been here a short while and I've probably come off, at times, clueless. Just recently, I've noticed people put Type 1 or Type 2 on their signatures or heading. Duh... sorry.

In the worst case scenario, if you can't cure it, you can be on just 4 units of Lantus a day. Cause that would make me a vastly better person than I am on a normal insulin dosage.

I haven't met anyone that has a cousin, but everyone has a neighbor's boyfriend's mother's cousin that cured it.

Urban legends always need the person to be far removed enough that you can't say "I wanna meet your cousin", after all.

No need to be sorry. Honestly...were there something to be sorry about...we'd surely have pointed it out!

Get used to it. I find it easier just to not tell people about my diabetes. That way i avoid having that annoying "find the cure" conversation, which includes talking about diet, natural medicine, religion, and even exorcism!! LOL.

Ive found that I now lead a healthier lifestyle than most non diabetics. I feel like my risk for complications will actual be lower later in life than them. I found my "cure".... Where is theirs?

'Scuse me...but WTF is a Motorola Electrify...and why do you feel it important to put that at the end of your response?
